Summary

The Unburied Dead introduces Thomas Hutton, the coarse, melancholic, drink-fuelled, sex-addicted police sergeant Tartan Noir has been waiting for.

A killer stalks the streets of Glasgow, his attacks bestial in their ferocity. The police are lost, and soon, as the past begins to haunt them, they themselves become targets. Step forward Detective Sergeant Hutton, adrift in a sea of love, lust, deception, alcohol and murdered colleagues. And lost though he is, the dead will not rest, the past will not be buried, and Hutton must find the answers before the killer strikes again....

Critic reviews

"Lindsay is an underrated writer with an eccentric, blisteringly satirical voice." (Sunday Express)

I’m not sure what negative reviews are about …

I can see that the sometimes somewhat explicit references to the many conquests of the hero detective may offend, but taken as a whole the book works quite well as a who done it. Good pace. Engaging characters. A good enough plot resolution. I do think, on a purely procedural point, that senior officers would have intervened fairly quickly when police officers began to be systematically slain. Perhaps that is what others object to. Who knows? I must say that I do not feel anxious to seek out more material by the author. That may change.

Don't bother !

made it to chapter 13, it's just awful. Been spoilt by the likes of JD Kirk, LJ Ross, Stuart MacBride !

Dreadful

Dreadful is the only word to describe this story.
Not a crime story at all just the rambling of an over seed ex squoddy!
Read to chapter 10 and ditched it.

Awful and Ridiculous

An awful book; think Irvine Welsh crossed with K D Kirk, but without the irony, wit, personality and credibility of storyline. I would have returned it if I could have.
