Another captivating listen

The sixth book of the Lennox series doesn't disappoint. Loved joining Lennox et al, meeting new characters at a different location to solve their next mystery! Once again Karen has written a fabulous and interesting story and Sam has brought everyone delightfully to life with his amazing voice talent.

Just keeps getting better!

I have listened to all this series and they just keep on delivering. I think this one is a close second to my favourite- Death in Damascus, but they are all excellent and far better than many other 1920's murder mysteries on offer. The books are laugh out loud amusing, clever, historically accurate and I rarely guess the murderer until the end, which hardly ever happens to me. Sam Dewhurst-Phillips is an amazing narrator, with a wide range of voices and accents that just makes the story sing. I wish he narrated many more authors which I would probably buy just for his narration alone.

Another enjoyable Heathcliff Lennox story

Loved every moment of this latest Karen Menuhin story, I am very surprised no one has yet thought to make a cinematic version of this series of books. The narration was as always first class , Sam Dewhurst Phillips being the best narrator I have yet encountered on Audible.

Listen from the start. Follows in the tradition of Agatha Christie and Dick Francis a good yarn. Likeable characters and the extra benefit of a great narrator. Not going to change your life but a happy eight hours listening whilst out for my daily walk

Perfect

Perfect match of voice and story, utterly engrossing, fundamentally warm, characters and landscape come to life. Sam Dewhurst-Phillip’s voice makes me relax immediately: rich and deep, nothing fluffy… and his comic timing…usually Re Lennox’s asides to himself the novel itself not a comedy…is perfect too. Loved the whole series and looking forward to the next one.

My prediction: Karen Baugh Menuhin’s work will become a classic mystery series

I just finished listening to Karen Baugh Menuhin’s newly released Audible version of the sixth book in her astonishing series of murder mysteries, “The Tomb of the Chatelaine.”

I finished listening to it with a profound sense of pure satisfaction. Satisfaction at the depth and breadth of the story, at the way the author develops characters and events to pull a mystery toward a final denouement that leaves the reader guessing to the end. And satisfaction that there will be a seventh book in this series very soon.

I love the Audible versions of Menuhin’s works! I have no idea how she and Sam Dewhurst-Phillips got together to collaborate on producing the Audible versions, but it is a fantastic pairing of this author’s works and the perfect narrator for them. Of all the narrators I have heard over some years, I have never heard one to match the skills of Dewhurst-Phillips: An amazing reader in voice and accents, who never distracts from the story by hitting a false note, but rather enhances and brings out the author’s characters with the voices he gives them. This “reader,” for one, can now never be completely satisfied with a book of this series that is not read by this narrator. So I wait for each Audible version to come out, although in my impatience I occasionally do download the Kindle version in advance.

I highly recommend this entire series to anyone who loves the genre. And I recommend hearing it. This is the first series of any kind that I have ever listened to multiple times, just as one might listen to a piece of great music many times, finding more to like about it at each hearing.

Worth the wait

Although the book has been out for awhile I’ve waited for the Audible version because I enjoy listening to Sam Dewhurst-Phillips. Excellent voice characterization! Great story and very well written. Now I will be anxiously awaiting the next book.

A new favorite!

Menuhin hits a perfect comedic balance in the first person narration of a self-deprecating, emotionally bumbling, yet often hilariously insightful main character. I just cannot get enough of this series!
Sam Dewhurst is a genius narrator. Great pairing. Eagerly awaiting next installment.

Another hit

I can’t get enough of this series. I also can’t see it being as good without Sam Dewhurst Phillips. I laugh, all the while I remain completely intrigued. The narration is so spot on, I can’t explain just how good. Just trust me;)

Lennox just can't seem to get it together.

thank God for his butler. very well done butler!

story was too convoluted (even compared to the others) , but looks like he got the girl in the end.

funniest part was how indignant the ex-inspector got over the export of the family whiskey. Sold Illegally? who would have thunk it... :]
