Summary

There’s a literary niche for all tastes including those who think that either Agatha Christie wasn’t funny enough or that PG Wodehouse didn’t feature anywhere near as many baffling murders as he could have. The Case of the Canterfell Codicil is a classic, cozy, locked-room mystery written in the style of an homage to PG Wodehouse. The result, for those familiar with Wodehouse or Jerome K Jerome and Agatha Christie or Dorothy L Sayers, is either an inexcusable offence to several beloved canons, or a hilarious, fast-paced, manor house murder mystery.

In The Case of the Canterfell Codicil, Wodehousian gadabout and clubman Anty Boisjoly takes on his first case when his old Oxford chum and coxswain is facing the gallows, accused of the murder of his wealthy uncle. Not one but two locked-room mysteries later, Boisjoly’s pitting his wits and witticisms against a subversive butler, a senile footman, a single-minded detective inspector, an irascible goat, and the eccentric conventions of the pastoral Sussex countryside to untangle a multilayered mystery of secret bequests, ancient writs, love triangles, revenge, and a teasing twist in the final paragraph.

Great fun & a good listen.

Brilliant performance of a great story with a colourful array of characters & a well thought out whodunnit plot & story lines. Great entertainment & wonderfully quirky characters.

Wodehouse lives!

Very well written, lots of humour and twists in the plot. The description of Wodehouse meets Christie is bang on. I hope there are more books in the series.

Wonderful Fun

I liked the story. It’s written in the style of Jeeves & Wooster. The plot is gripping as well as light hearted although I had not guessed the ‘who did it’ until it was revealed.

Quirky but fun

A very quirky mystery reminiscent of Agatha Christie but a spoof! Found myself wondering if it would make a fun TV movie or simply be annoying. It reminded me of the film Knives Out or the Cluedo movie with Tim Curry as the crazy butler. It took me a while to adjust to listening to the very ‘flowery’ writing style but the narration helped a lot. Fun, quirky and a bit different than my usual detective novels.

Case of silliness

If you like Wodehouse you’ll enjoy this romp. Twists and turns and a good ending

Very amusing and entertaining.

I confess to never having heard of the author.....however this sounded right up my street, so I gave it a listen . So pleased that I did , as I thoroughly enjoyed every word . It takes quite a lot to amuse me these days ( grumpy old man ) but I found myself chuckling away out loud !
Good plot , wonderful characters and cleverly written and narrated. I shall read the rest in the series.

Gripping story that is told with such a witty tone that is totally sold by the excellent narration. Cannot wait to get onto the rest of the series!
