A weekly newspaper dedicated to the weird and the wonderful (but mostly the weird), The Stranger Times is the go-to publication for the unexplained and inexplicable. At least that's their pitch. The reality is rather less auspicious. Their editor is a drunken, foul-tempered and foul-mouthed husk of a man who thinks little of the publication he edits. His staff are a ragtag group of misfits. And as for the assistant editor...well, that job is a revolving door - and it has just revolved to reveal Hannah Willis, who's got problems of her own.

Summary
A Christmas short story from the 'Queen of Time', internationally best-selling author of The Chronicles of St Mary's, Jodi Taylor.
Once again, the Toast of Time falls butter side down. Dr 'Max' Maxwell prepares for her very first Christmas away from St Mary's....
It's that most wonderful time of the year once more. But Max and Markham are a long way from St Mary's. What sort of Christmas will it be without their loved ones?
Settle down with a mince pie and a small sherry and prepare for an unlikely combination of Flying Auctions, Fabergé eggs, duped Time Police officers, the Parish Council, a TWOCed Bentley (no, not that one), legendary swords and a belligerent ram.
Will it be Peace and Goodwill to all men? Well, we all know the answer to that....
Critic reviews
"Jodi Taylor is quite simply the Queen of Time. Her books are a swashbuckling joyride through History." (C. K. Mcdonnell)

A Little Short
Having read all but two of Jodi Taylor's books and most of those at least three times, I'm obviously a huge fan.
However, having been on tenterhooks for the last couple of months waiting for this latest Chronicles of St Mary's, I'm feeling a little disappointed.
This may be unfair. To start with, I had in mind the book was full length. It wasn't until the release date, the 25th, that I discovered my mistake.
The date should have alerted me. It probably would have if the price had been set in line with other shorts in the series but for some reason it wasn't.
I could accept being charged full price for a short if the story was really good but for the first time I felt the offering was a bare minimum.
Don't get me wrong. It was ok. It's just that there wasn't much to it. It seems to me that there were numerous ways the plot could have been made more interesting and without too much extra effort.

lazy storyline, don't bother
I am really sad to see my beloved St Mary's stories running low on interesting storylines and adventure. ever since "Plan for the worst", the stories have become progressively more and more lackluster, and infected by writer's stress to churn out another story. sadly this was the last straw for me, and I will not continue tuning in, I'll just have revisit the old books when I want a St Mary's fix.

$25.00 for a 0.5 level book?
I cannot believe I pre-ordered this under the impression it would be a full volume of the series. When I downloaded it and discovered it was “12.5” I was furious. I waited over 6 months and spent $25 on a book that was 50% (of the whole 3 hr listening time) taken up by the foreword and the listing of characters. I am still gobsmacked. Very disappointed in Audible and my former favorite author for light-hearted romps. Boo!!!!

this was the last one for me. you know how some series just seem to go on too long? maybe it's too many characters to keep track of. maybe it's gotten too formulaic. there is nothing really new. maybe it's all of the above. I'm just done.

Disappointed? Much
I love these stories and it is largely that I love listening to Zara Ramm narrating. I am so mad about this book though. I paid the same amount for a book that was a fraction of the length. It was over before I felt like the story began. I feel like Jodi Taylor’s publishers really took advantage of the loyal fans here, knowing we would buy the next book without looking too closely at the length or reading reviews. Save your money and listen again to the old ones my friends.

It was so good getting a glimpse Max after the tumultuous last book and know that she's hanging in there despite life being turned upside down. My favorite part was he clandestine visit that ended up being a quite public nose thumb to that evil jerk... OH and the mental picture of the naked security/gardeners. Hilarious. Jodi Taylor writes wonderful books and Zara Ramm narrates them just right! The usual players showcase their various talents. Cars, eggs, and interesting hiding locations are also featured in another great St. Mary’s short adventure.
