Summary

Banished, alone, adrift. A new beginning.

Long Wu Ying has been banished from the Verdant Green Waters Sect for defying the orders of the Elders. Forced to prove himself in the outer world before he is allowed to return, Wu Ying begins a journey that will have him visiting old haunts and a new kingdom.

Amidst new cultivators, new politics, and new challenges, Wu Ying must find the center of his dao and rise to the challenge.

Or be forgotten on the steps to immortality.

The Third Kingdom is the seventh novel in the A Thousand Li series, a book on immortal cultivation, wondrous martial arts, evil cultivation sects, and spirit beasts. This series will be loved by those searching for wuxia, xianxia, and progression fantasy works and those looking for a more westernized cultivation story. The Third Kingdom is written by Tao Wong, the best-selling sci-fi and fantasy LitRPG author of the System Apocalypse, Adventures on Brad, and the Hidden Wishes series.

Interesting but not really my cup of tea

I love the series and will continue to read it, but this was probably my least favourite of the bunch. More of a murder story than anything else, it was decent enough though not really what I came for. Still worth getting through if you enjoyed the previous books!

Great Addition to the Series

Tao Wong's series is one of my favourites and this book only adds to it.
The book is a bit different than the usual ones, think murder mystery cultivation style. I really enjoyed the story. The world building is brilliant, the new kingdom is described excellently, the characters are well written, all have depth. The narration was top notch, as always.

I do wish the story was longer though.
Waiting for the next installment.

A murder mystery side story

Not sure about this book I've loved the series overall and while this doesn't ruin anything its a bit dull, he finally progress's but that's at the start the book is pretty short and isn't my thing thematically

Ok but a bit empty

Little story, character or cultivation progression, which is what I expect and like. A somewhat dragged out detective story, it could have been done faster and made more progression instead. A little disappointed, I hope there story gets deeper and not a lot of random events.

Story and Narration Superb

While I missed some of my favorite characters from the previous books, I very much enjoyed watching Wu Ying navigate his way in new territories and new situations. This story was satisfying in many ways as we see Wu Ying advance, cope with new people and circumstances as he did in the first book but without the naivetee and lack of skills, plus he fought fights without ending up in a medicinal bath.

Travis Baldree does his usual great job and I know I couldn't enjoy this half as much without him.

The only down side to this book is that it didn't simply keep going.

Poor work

I was more after listening to the other books, just a constant dribble of descriptive battles. Not much of a story

6.5 Not 7

The book is satisfying in some ways, but this is the worst in the series. I still enjoyed it, but it was "a drop in an ocean". This seems like more of a story that could have been between novels rather than the next book in the series.

Really Tao?

As someone who automatically buys every single Tao Wong book, this installment was a definite disappointment :(
Quite the filler, i kept listening and waiting for the murder mystery nonsense to be over so we can get back to the actual storyline when I discovered i was at the end & the book was over!

I don’t know why Tao thinks that we would be invested in this book when even the MC was only vaguely interested in the tournament, barely knew his companions and couldn’t be bothered to get involved in the rebel nonsense going on.

I am looking forward to the next book in hopes that it is a great improvement from this one.

Feels like a whole new beginning

A new kingdom to explore, and a whole new level of cultivation to experience. In a lot of ways this book feels like a first in a series. In the best possible ways. I look forward to perchasing the next.

Best one yet

This was a really nice change of pace from the other books. We now get to see our boy working on his own with some actual power to his name and only his own choices to worry about.

Christmas in July !!

Really enjoyed this next installment of probably my top 3 series in this genre. I have recently gotten bored reading / listening to Xianxia / Western cultivation were the protagonists are sociopaths. Travis Baldree is the reason I had found Tao Wong thru listening thru his other works. This series and Beware of Chicken is my go to to for a re listen when I cannot find something to add to my over 1,000 audiobook library.

As Ever, Awesome!

5 stars! Yet another great addition to an excellent series. I cannot wait for the next journey in the "thousand li" to come. Please don't keep us waiting too long and in suspense. Take my money!

Tao Wong at his best

Tao Wong has made easily my favorite entry in the series and the final showdown was incredible.

Basically... if you wanted to summarize, it was the bulter with the candlestick in the study room...
