Clever story but was confusing

There are different stories all intertwined becoming clearer as time goes by and also a fictional story also. in a sense joining them together. but I certainly got confused. Jodi Picolt seems to enjoy. telling stories. around moral dilemmas with no answers only questions so the strange thing to me was the main character's moral dilemma concerning herself from her action in the past and seemingly unaware. I had wondered about the ending turning out so...

What a journey!

Jodi Picoult delivers again. Weaving story within story within story - what a genius. Brilliantly researched and written, digging deep into psyches of her characters and tackling one of the most abhorrent times in history with unusual compassion.

Exceptional.

Possibly Jodi Picoult’s best work. Really well researched as usual but very thought provoking. You do have to pay attention but the performers do such a great job it’s easy to follow who is who and it’s definitely worth it.

Outstanding, compelling, love over evil

I am so glad I chose this story. The tragic events that are so well depicted, humanity and decency are there. The love story that weaves through this engaging listen lets us believe that hope overcomes evil. Listening I believe was easier than it would have been to read, and the German accent helped to transport one to the heart of the events. Unforgettable

a story of pain that penetrates the psyche

and an interesting exploration what forgiveness is about. I did struggle in listening to this revisit of the Holocaust, but I also realised that I am old enough to have heard (and believe) the testimonials of this example of Androcracy gone to its ultimate madness. I acknowledged to myself that so many do not believe, or only do so abstractly. The main vortice is a bit contrived, but also makes sense in the grim tales unfolding, within the grimmest tale of all, one that actually happened in our recent history. How many who need to read this book, actually will? It's not a book to read before bed. I know! I did and was more judicious afterwards. I loved the details about using flour in so many ways, remembering how important ground grain has been for a few millennia, and the calm and generosity offered to the reader. The author also takes on a theme of our life scars, the impact of our mistakes, and how our interconnectedness can also offer us the safety we need to heal.
