Summary
Delia Hopkins has led a charmed life. Raised in rural New Hampshire by her widowed father, Andrew, she now has a young daughter, a handsome fiancé, and her own search-and-rescue bloodhound, which she uses to find missing persons. But as Delia plans her wedding, she is plagued by flashbacks of a life she can't recall. And then a policeman knocks on her door, revealing a secret that changes the world as she knows it.
What happens when you learn you are not who you thought you were? When the people you've loved and trusted suddenly change before your eyes? When getting your deepest wish means giving up what you've always taken for granted? Vanishing Acts explores how life as we know it might not turn out the way we imagined; how doing the right thing could mean doing the wrong thing; and how the memory we thought had vanished could return as a threat.

Usually A Picoult Fan...
I have greatly enjoyed other books by this author, especially the first class, multi-faceted Small Great Things, but I detested this one. Saccharine, poorly researched legally, one-dimensional characters and a one-sided moral perspective that condones child abduction and taking justice into your own hands as a parent, without any exploration of appropriate legal channels and child protection procedures. Don’t understand how she got this one

Another enthralling court room drama
Another brilliant story from Jodi Picoult: compelling narrative, well developed characters with a tangible emotional undercurrent that provides for a gripping read. The dialogue is excellent and believable and the multiple perspectives gives the off kilter story real depth. Like all of Picoult's books that I have listened to, the moral dimension makes the stories more vivid leaving traces of the nuances with you long after you have finished reading or listening. I really loved this and look forward to my next one. Highly recommended

Awful narration
Can’t give an opinion on the full story as narration was so awful I could not continue. All narrators had saliva mouths and kept swallowing. YUK

Bit dull
In some ways I liked the multiple narrators and others ways I didn’t.
Found Andrew’s character was not developed enough, narration of him wasn’t that interesting, and the conclusion was fine but as I’d expect. I was hoping for a bit more.
I really did not like the sections that were just lists of things or people.

I have enjoyed other books more
Usually I love anything by Jodi Picoult, but I struggled with this book. I felt the story jumped around from present day to past and person to person too much to flow as an easy read. The subject matter was interesting, the twist and turns kept me listing.

Not her best, but still worth listening to.
I enjoyed this book, and in particular the different readers, but found the Native American detail an unnecessary red herring. It seemed like padding in a good story.

Simple Review.
Slow to start, but worth the wait!
Why must my review be a minimum of 15 characters?
