About this listen

The best-selling author of My Sister's Keeper and The Tenth Circle, Jodi Picoult pens her most riveting book yet, with a startling and poignant story about the devastating aftermath of a small-town tragedy.

Sterling is an ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens - until the day its complacency is shattered by an act of violence. Josie Cormier, the teenage daughter of the judge sitting on the case, should be the state's best witness, but she can't remember what happened before her very own eyes - or can she? As the trial progresses, fault lines between the high school and the adult community begin to show, destroying the closest of friendships and families.

absolutely loved it! This book was chosen by my book club, I chose the audio version because of the size of it! (I love a long novel) took the speaker around the house whilst doing chores etc because I wanted to hear what happened next

definitely recommend

This book should be mandatory read in all US schools. I cried for Peter. Heartbreaking story. I'm 45 and I was the popular kid throughout the schools. Everyone wanted to be my friend. I used that to my advantage and became also the protector of the weakest, the kids like Peter. My grandma taught me that. Apparently I've changed lives, so I was told. I wish there was more popular kids now like me back then.

A must read

loved this. not a huge fan of the narrator, but fortunately the story is so compelling that this can be overlooked. credible characters and plenty of twists and turns. I was trying to second guess . left me with some unanswered questions, but rather that than a predictable plot anytime. highly recommended this .

gripping drama

I liked how the story did not end abruptly, that you got an insight into how the individual characters were affected.

The attention to detail.

I don’t normally listen to American narrators but this one definitely grew on me and I enjoyed the performance.
The plot of this book is fantastic! I was hooked from beginning to end. 100% recommend

Outstanding

The Americanisms annoyed me at first especially the overuse of the word "sucked" however this and the. narrator's American accent faded due to her compelling storytelling and twisted plot lines. An excellent read definitely reading more Jodi Picoult. Ace

thought provoking, intelligently written twisted

I really think this book should come with several trigger warnings. School shootings and domestic abuse to name two! But it’s really well written, really engaging and really well narrated. Definitely recommended, but not if you’re likely to be upset by it.

Gripping and heartbreaking

As always with this author, the story is gripping and emotional. But the performance was really poor - alternating between GPS-like narrative and strangely choking dialogue voices..

Great story, horrible performance

Simple narration made the slow build up even better. Kept me hooked to the end. Believable characters with depth and foibles.
