Summary

Some stains don't come out....

Raised in a household so filthy it was stomach-spilling, Vera involuntarily evolved into a neat freak. Upon discovering she and her disabled husband, Daniel, are expecting, she needs fast cash.

Her obsession with cleanliness sprouts the concept that her skills can be put to use in a unique way. She takes a stab at the booming door-to-door vacuum sales business of 1988.

All is going well until she arrives at the steps of a house that will change her forever. The steps of an evil that resurrects the ghastly memories she so desperately tried to wash away.

Nothing will prepare you for the nastiness, disorder, and sickening horror brought forth by...the Slob. The Slob has received critical praise and as a result has been nominated for the 2021 Splatterpunk Awards!

Disgusting but a lot of fun

There are some moments that are hard to stomach in this book but it’s a wild ride and well worth your time

I wish I'd listen to the other reviews

I really wish I didn't waste a credit on this book. It started off okay. And then it wasn't.
Wasn't really horror or thrilling. Just messed up, but not even in a good way. I had some laugh out loud moments where I probably wasn't supposed to.
No reason or story behind it really.
Sooo many questions left unanswered.
It had potential to be really good. But wasn't. Honestly I wouldn't bother.

As a horror lover this was rubbish.

The female protagonist has a really bad case of "female written by a man". She is more worried about how her husband will feel after he sees her and all her mutilation rather than how SHE will get better or that "she must fix or help any man to get him to like me ".
The story does start off strong then half way though it just becomes "how can I make this as pointlessly disgusting as possible with out actually adding to the plot/story". There is like a 10 minuet description of "The Slob" in the seen that take about 5 seconds in real time.
There is also a part when a woman with no lips can speak clear is a bell and she has had some horrific injuries but is just totally chill with it and it doesn't even remotely bother her or is in like no apparent pain and neither is the main protagonist at that point either.
At the end she is more worried about "pleasing her man" than the fact that she has been brutalized over and over.
I know that this is a story and gore for the sake of gore but it was just so god damm unrealistic that at many point I almost gave up because it was just to stupid.
I know this book has became a big thing on social media but I honestly don't recommend not for the fact that it is as before mentioned overly gory but because its just a bad book. Plane and simple. Don't even bother.

Great disgusting story, too short though

The narration was brilliant, the story itself is not fit the faint hearted. Very gory with detailed descriptions of murder and assault, just what I was looking for.
At 3h and 45 mins I felt it was far too short, there were bits of the story that could have been expanded on (the slobs upbringing, the back story of the gay guys etc) but overall, a good, quick listen.

Repulsive and vile

This is extreme horror at its finest. It's disgusting and will make you cringe and wrinkle your nose and upper lip as if you were constantly saying "ewwwww.". If you're a fan of splatter plunk and extreme horror, this is a MUST READ! I thoroughly enjoyed it and with it being my first Aron Beauregard read, I'm definitely a fan. Gave it 4⭐ because I thought it was too short and the ending was too abrupt.

I don't know why this was written.

It's just over the top gore. Extreme violence towards women and gay men. Nothing is particularly well written. It's really just bad. I feel nothing for it. The gore in American Psycho is worse. It tries to shock and fails. This is awful. I just want my money back.

wish I read reviews

I started out not liking the main character. she came off pretentious and her relationship with her husband seemed a little bit token. but as the story progressed I found myself rooting for her and her survival. then the last chapter happened. completely homophobic and racist. editors should have cut it out. big yikes. won't be reading or listening to any other stories by the author. which is disappointing since the horror scenes were written great.

Intense

I enjoyed this book a lot and will be buying the second. However… one scene in particular almost stopped me from finishing it… without spoiling really anything, imo nothing that came after compared to the unspeakable brutality done via dumbbell.

plot holes galore, female bodies dont do that

I definitely gagged, but the ending made no sense. also, there's a part where he describes something impossible. cringey womans point of view written by a man who doesnt talk to many women. HOWEVER, the writing of the perfect storm is really well done, I was blindsided with the gross stuff after that.

Awful

Absolutely the worst thing I’ve ever heard in my entire life. I had to make myself finish it. But still, 10/10 A.B. is a genius.

Reach much?

I was pulled into the realism at first and then let go by the Forced Reach to be over Obscene.

Trash

I didn’t see the warnings but wish I had. I’m sure some people like this hate but it is trash writing
Started off good and got to the point of whatever garbage the writer could think of went into the story.

Beware! This book is mondo effed up!

This is probably the most disturbing novella I’ve read in a long time. The physical horror the protagonist goes through is beyond description in this review. I can’t imagine what the narrator went through reading this. But Aron Beauregard is a brilliant writer and The Slob will give you nightmares for weeks! Definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you’re a hardcore horror fan, this is the book for you.

Extreme Horror Classic

Classic extreme horror. The author is talented with their words, which can be more rare for this genre. Features some unique gross out content and a satisfying end. For those you who enjoy this genre, you will like it. For those you are easily offended or upset....steer clear.
