Summary

When Tessa arrives at the little house by the lake with her two children, it is an escape. The rental house may be a bit small – but it’s theirs for the summer. A place to hide…

However, their isolation is disrupted by the family from the big house next door. Three children and their glamorous mother Rebecca – who seems determined to invite Tessa into their lives.

Rebecca, however, is harboring a dark secret. And when it becomes too much for her to bear, Tessa seems to be the only person she can turn to.

But as powerful bonds form between the two families, choices will be made that can never be undone. And as the summer comes to an end, nothing can keep everyone safe. And one family will pay the ultimate price…

A gripping, powerful emotional page turner with a heartbreaking twist, for fans of Jodi Picoult, Emily Bleeker and Diane Chamberlain.

Such droning on of whiny drama.

If you want to hear two women complaining for hours on end this would be the book for you. It was awful.

Disappointing

The story was line was headed in a good direction, but when the Zoe and Catherine went to the hospital it felt like the situation was rushed and unrealistic. It was not the outcome I expected, which is good in a way, but the way it got there and the final resolution was not realistic at all. Very sad ending!

Also on chapter 35 when Rebecca asks Tessa how Catherine was doing while in the hospital, we learn about her lungs condition, which was precipitated by the author being that Tessa had not actually learned about that. (This was a mistake on the book)

couldn't put it down.

the narrator was phenomenal. It wasn't a voice that you got tired of listening to. The emotion included was spot-on.

Awful. Boring. Made pandemic isolating so much worse!

I don’t normally do reviews & never negatively, but this was long and never attempts to be anything more than mundane rambling followed by a needless tragedy I suppose to have something to say. It’s just plain awful. Waste of money. So very sorry I purchased it.

Sad Yet Very Realistic

The narrator did a fantastic job. The plot developed much too slowly. Had it not been a book club read I might not have finished it. I'm glad indie though as it was worth the wait. it started to really to pick up mod way the book. such a tragic ending in some ways, but redemption, renewed strength of character and misplaced values regained at the end. Life lessons that everyone can reflect and learn from.

Don't waste your time.

Two self absorbed women meet on summer vacation. They unfortunately have children. One of the women has a problem with cutting. Her child learns that from the mother. The other women's daughter learns it from that kid and ends up dying.
Not worth the read.

Pretty terrible

I kept wanting this book to get get better and I do wonder if it weren’t for the whiney voice of I’d be better. It probably would be but still not enough. I endured 17 chapters not wanting to give up but realized it just wasn’t worth the time. I’m sorry I didn’t shout it down sooner.

didn't love it didn't hate it

Not my usual genre. Decent story and it was well-written... not sure I would recommend it though.

Couldn't stop listening....

So glad I listened to this and didn't read it because I would have a reading hangover. Great story that had lots of twist and turns. Plus, a reminder to focus on the good and positive in our lives. Also, take of our mental health. It effects all we are around.

Awful

If I could give zero stars I would. Two women that need to just suck it up. And I’m thinking there’s a lot more words out there instead of using the word morose over and over and over again.
