About this listen

Welcome to the life of Dr Max Skittle. Therapist, relationship counsellor, social worker, friend, parent-figure - and, yes: doctor.

Join Max - and his patients - as he takes us on a rollercoaster journey through a year in the life of a doctor: from infected toenails, to wonky elbows, to erectile disfunction, to bed bugs; the happy couple expecting a surprise new baby; the teenage girl struggling with body image issues; the loving family grappling with grief, Max shows us all the highs and crushing lows that come with being a GP - and how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed all our lives forever.

This is what really goes on in your local doctor's surgery - spilt urine bottles, existential crises, emails back and forth with social services, utterly unexplainable health problems and appointments always running late - told by a man who, despite it all, really loves his job.

couldn't stop listening

Loved this book, beautifully narrated. The book made me laugh, cry and also raise an eyebrow or two. A well written insight into the other side of the doctors desk.

Interesting listen.

I enjoyed the title but! A bit too much pontificating later in the book. Still I listened without wanting to turn off or swap to another title.

Educational and Refreshing

Nothing too serious, easy to follow, mildly humorous in places, will look for his other efforts.

Funny and real insight into GP

I loved this book, it was very well narrated and was an interesting and humorous account of Dr Skittles experience as not just a GP but also a dad and wife, and the challenges of balancing work and family life. It felt both very real, moving and also funny.

Inspiration

A doctor with a true calling and a great sense of humour. Wish more doctors were like that. Very well read. A lot to be learnt from such an optimist. Thank you

What a lovely book

I just wish my doctor was like Dr Skittle. He is funny, almost naive, and caring. Just a pleasure to listen to.

Yaz Dr hooked

This was a funny, refreshing and honest book. I kept laughing all the way through it. As a person who suffers poor health it was good to listen too when waking during the night. But I had to keep my hand over my mouth with the giggles I got, just so I didn’t waken my hubby up.

Mildly Informative and Enjoyable Listen

Taken with a pinch of salt, not too bad a listen. Enjoyable enough but very self analytical, probably better for self reflection of the author rather than a medical insight. Not funny especially, but so t think it is meant to be. Too many personal references of a first time father gets a little monotonous. Shame it’s didn’t incorporate a comparison with the new country job
