Welcome to the surgery
Charting his 15 years working as a GP, from rookie to becoming a partner in one of the UK’s busiest surgeries, Dr Amir Khan’s stories are as much about community and care as they are about blood tests and bodily fluids.
Along the way, he introduces us to the patients that have taught him about love, loss and family - from the regulars to the rarities - giving him the most unbelievable highs and crushing lows and often in just 10 minutes.
There is the unsuspecting pregnant woman about to give birth at the surgery, the man offering to drop his trousers and take a urine sample there and then, the family who needs support through bereavement, the vulnerable child who will need continuing care for a long-term health condition and, of course, the onset of the COVID-19 that tested the surgery at every twist and turn. But, it’s all in a day’s work for Amir.
The Doctor Will See You Now is a powerful story of hope, love and compassion, but it’s also a rare insider account of what really goes on behind those surgery doors.

Beautifully written, I had to keep listening!
Everyone who has seen/will see a GP needs to hear.this. It's so touchingly written. It describes the human experience, and helps put any day to day niggles in perspective. Best book I have heard for some time!

Struck so many chords for me.
As a fellow clinician this was as cathartic to hear as much as Dr Khan states it was to write. But a valuable listen for all patients as well. Thank you for striking so many chords and helping me re discover my enjoyment of GP land.

A gentle read with a bit of a punch
This book makes you smile in a gentle way but makes you reflect about healthcare in the present day.
Dr Kahn reads his own words in a non theatrical way with good timing. The book is respectful to patients and colleagues and , read with good humour and empathy.

Absolutely brilliant!
I love a good medical memoir but they're harder to find than you think considering how many there now are! Dr Khan's voice is so soothing and lovely to listen to and there is plenty of humour among the sad truths of being a GP, especially in these terribly hard times.
Just a great listen start to finish.

Amazing
I didn’t dislike anything about this book …. It was throughly enjoyable. I think to understand it and enjoy it you would have to have a interest in how the NHS or medicine works
