Summary
Twelve years after he left Peterborough under a cloud, DI Bliss returns to the city and the major crimes team. Having spent years policing organised crime, Bliss is plunged straight into the heart of a serial murder investigation.
Meanwhile, Penny Chandler has been promoted to DS and has been working in London on the Met’s sexual crimes team. But when two rapes are reported on her old patch in Peterborough, Chandler volunteers to interview the victims. Chandler joins the hunt for the attacker and soon notices a possible link between the rapes and Bliss’ murder investigation. Could the same man be responsible?
Just as both cases seem to stall, a call comes in from an ex-policeman who knows of unsolved cases in the USA with a similar MO. Bliss finds himself travelling to California to hunt for a killer whose reach may have stretched further than anyone could possibly imagine. But in order to catch the murderer, Bliss must discover the killer’s motive. A motive which should have remained buried in the past...

Great book but too long!
I like these books, the characters and stories are good but there’s quite a bit of woffle and talking about the same thing over and over. Cut a bit of the rubbish out and they’ll be excellent.

Excellent
I just love the DI Bliss Series and have totally engaged with the characters. Book 2 was everything I hoped for and more. Absolutely brilliant, great story lines, excellent characters - can’t wait for the next one.

Another great case
Another fantastic case with Bliss. So glad Pen came back too 🥰
My only regret is the time lapse in story line between the two books.

Good story
Good story. Quite harrowing at times but it was well written and excellently narrated (except for the American accents!).

What an excellent series
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the two stories I’ve listened to so far. The characterisations are completely believable, the narration absolutely brilliant, and the plots complicated enough to keep my interest as well as challenge me. Look forward to the next one.

Action-packed police drama
Like the idea of an ageing flawed hero. A well paced story with plenty of twists and turns.

Story and narrator
Enjoyed the twists and turns and descriptions of the terrible Norfolk weather I felt myself on the cliff edge with them

Annoying use of the word boss
This book started out ok but then got ridiculous, too far fetched to be believable. Trips to America then hounded by native Americans followed by a kidnap and swat turning up I’m surprised alien abduction didn’t find a way in to the stor

Ageism
I stopped at chapter 9. It moves along quite well and the narration is very good, but the notion of casually describing women aged 58 to early 60's as "elderly" (constantly) and "sprightly for her age" really irritated me. Contrast this with Bliss who is a mere 55 (!) years old and hence a young stripling, still checking out women's bodies, and doing martial arts. I note that the author was born in 1958 and hence 60 himself when this was published. Did he consider himself elderly, or is that notion only reserved for women who are deemed "past it"?

Easy to listen to
I'm already looking for the next in the series. Surprised about the gap since the last book but it works. Book 3 not on Audible??
