Summary

With the invasion of Earth handled, and an enemy Chosen now targeting him, Jake makes his final push for C-grade…

A final push that includes refining one last skill before he evolves. Once that’s done, all he needs is a few more levels and to finish off his bucket list of vanities before it’s time to evolve.

The evolution itself will have no surprises, right?

Jake will no doubt learn more about himself in his quest to explore his own abilities, and of course some things don’t go entirely as expected…but little does Jake know just how much his happy little accidents can send tremors through the multiverse and the impact it can have.

Who knows, maybe the waves are big enough that it’s time to finally have a proper Chosen Ceremony, officially embracing his title as the Chosen of the Malefic Viper.

Really enjoyable continuation of the story

This is probably my favourite book in this genre I enjoy the main character and the side characters and enjoy the world and how it is setup and you know your place in it. Excited for the next chapter and hope its interesting but also exciting and tense. The relationship between Jake and The Malefic Viper is just fun.

Also a side note about the recap since i usually listen to these while working with audio the recap was pretty nice can see why some people won't like it but its a nice refresher if you have been busy or listening to other things.

Moving along

Sometimes when you read a series, although you may enjoy the individual book you can also feel it hasn't moved the plot along much. This series is certainly not the worst offender (Defiance of the Fall) but I did feel slightly disappointed. Having said that the book in itself was enjoyable enough. The main criteria, I suppose is, did it leave you anticipating the next book? And yes it did.

love the books!

love the books. just want to say two things:
first is probably personal but it's the first book with a recap chapter. personally I didn't like it much. was kinda strange and broke the 4 wall ish?.
second thing is that I feel the filler sentence "that is/was natural..." was used a bit too much.

Going downhill, albeit a tall one

I've truly and throughougly enjoyed these books. One of - if not the - very best litrpgs I've listened to thus far. My one pet peeve throughout the books has been the Mary Sue nature of people surrounding the protagonist. For as we follow the protagonist through the story, his many battles and struggles that leads to power-ups - his surrounding entourage pretty much just gets it handed to them. If everyone can do what he does, what makes him so special?

What I really enjoyed about these books in comparison to most others is the almost singular focus of the story on the protagonist. Some side stories exist, some side characters are indeed introduced, but it's minor. With this being said, this is also where the downhill starts as the story progresses. In the 9th book, we've had 70+ chapters of politics, of talking and of nonsense. No gains, no progress, no fighting. I presume these things will become more and more prevalent as we go from here, and I'm already close to ending my listening in favour of other books. I guess it's only natural that the story shift from the protagonist and his gains to a wider scope and thus more political stuff, but... it's so boring. Considering how good it began, it is indeed a steep hill to traverse down and I can only hope it doesn't get even worse from here.
