Summary

He didn't kiss me back like a gentleman. No, Derek Price slammed my back into the front door. A beast off his leash.

Emily Stanton's perfect life just became a disaster. She has a trust fund brother looking for a handout, a father who is more board member than dad, and a mother who thinks she should give up on this whole billionaire CEO thing and meet a man with a pre-nup and a yacht.

Oh, and then there's that "misunderstanding" with law enforcement witnessed by Miami's paparazzi. Now her billion-dollar deal is on the line, and there's a naked man in her bathtub who claims he's going to make all her problems disappear.

Charming - and happy to bend the rules when necessary - Derek Price has made a living polishing the tarnished images of the rich and famous. He's never lost, and he never takes clients to bed. Until the dazzling Emily. Derek promised her a win and offered up a lifetime supply of orgasms as part of the deal. But if he can't stop her enemies, he'll end up losing much more than he bargained for.

Author Notes: An enemies-to-allies-to-lovers workplace romcom with a meet-nude, four lady billionaire BFFs, a hero whose many talents include styling hair and picking pockets, the best dang drag queen brunch in Miami, and a shameless romance novelist cameo.

Great ebook and even better audiobook

I read the ebook first and then had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook. Both Natalie Duke and Stephen Dexter are so amazing as the narrators. I loved Stephen Dexter's light English accent and they infused humor into their roles. So. much. FUN!

As for the book, this was a great start to the 4 book series and in fact, the other 3 books were also so much fun and really did an awesome job building a fun world that follows the 4 brilliant and beautiful women billionaires.

There are many reasons why this is worth the read or listen- first of all, the humor- I laughed a lot. Not only are the people awesome but the animals added to the fun. There's so much personality in this book! Emily is awesome- i loved reading about her love of science and as someone who also loves science, her nerdiness just makes me happy. Derek, oh Derek. He's amazing- we need more men who are so comfortable with their own, ahem, body. And the other women- the loyal, love, heart and humor. I NEED A BOOK FOR JANE. Please?

Very funny

Being English, Stephen Dexters accent took a few chapters to get used too, but I am glad I stuck with it. Great fun.

Couldn’t finish

This was one I couldn’t finish. I usually love Lucy Score but I found this cliche and dull. I really wasn’t interested in what happened to the characters.

I was irritated by the male narrator in particular. If it’s about a character with a British accent then please get a British narrator. His accent was terrible. Clearly went for the plumb in his mouth variety and it didn’t work. He Also spoke far too slowly and too high pitched. It put me off the whole book if I’m honest.

A great start to a fun series

Such a good book. I fell in love with Derek and his cocky attitude. Talk about a man with confidence, yes please.
Emily was such a fun leading lady. She is smart, beautiful and wickedly loyal. Add in their crazy group of fun friends and you have a knock out of a start for this series. Well done Lucy, you hit it out of the ball park.

Loved the characters and the story!

I loved the audiobook of Emily and Derek's story and have listened to it a few times.❤️ They are a great match and I found myself hoping they'd get together.
The characters were well developed and the story and plot were wonderful. It's always more fun when I'm not able to guess the entire plot by the 3rd or 7th, chapter.
One of my favorite characters is Emily's assistant Jane, who was a hoot! She was a perfect addition to this wonderful book along with Emily's group of friends. 😍

A fun listen

This series of books is just so much fun to listen to. I love the camaraderie and friendship between these four women and watching the shenanigans that they get into together.

Just so cringeworthy

I was in the verge of quitting this one sooooo many times. I am actually embarrassed that I kept listening Derek is such an a-hole in the beginning and Emily is a doormat. Not a fan of Stephen Dexter but this narration was particularly bad. Terrible brutish accent, truly unlistenable. The last. Quarter of the book where he transforms into a good guy hero is so overwrought I was either rolling my eyes or cringing when he narrated. His narration made some of the sexy scenes awkward to listen to.

Besides his narration the story was choppy with what seemed like gratuitous scenes with her girlfriends and neighbors. Too over the top to be entertaining.

On the good side- I loved Jane. She was the best thing about the book and I might try a story featuring her. I will not read on to hear about Daisy and Luna. Both were obnoxious and the voice and character of Luna was hard to take.

I have really like other Lucy Score listens even though I wish she would’ve emplacement Stephen. Won’t finish this series but may try something else by her.

Just Okay

It took me awhile to get into this book because it it had so many lulls in the story. Some parts were boring and predictable bright side it did have some funny bits :-) . The audible performance was pretty decent.

Loved it!

Great story, awesome narration. I love that the heroine does not need saving, she saves herself- best kind of strong girl power.

FRUSTRATING!

I was invested for the major part of the story. The entire course of this book was very predictable, but honestly, I liked both main characters enough that I stuck to it. And I found myself relating to Emily quite a lot.

But the last few chapters made me so frustrated that I was mad at her for being so shortsighted. And the damn narration of female characters! Argh! It was so grating I wanted to pull out my hair.

Just a note: I found it so damn annoying that Emily refused to grow a backbone up until the last critical point. It's a literal impossibility for her to be a self-made billionaire with such a very naive and short-sighted perspective all the time. I started out liking her, but ended up almost hating her.

Coming back here to say how much I hate how the antagonist was written. I know it's a romance novel, but maybe don't insult the reader's intelligence by creating such a flat, two-dimensional villain, on which you heap all of the hate and pettiness for no reason other than jealousy for the *hot and rich genius with a heart of gold*... The only reason to do this is to gain sympathy for the main character. But it just made the entire story so shallow and cheap.

Silly but entertaining

I needed something light hearted and this fit the bill. The story was far fetched though and laughable at times.

Don't be deceived by the tedium

I have to admit, the reason why it took me quite a while to finish listening to this was first, I wanted to savor these dynamic duo in audiobook narration as long as I could. Turns out the build-up of the story was slow to my liking, bringing me to tedium. Thankfully, it also slowly became more interesting, not to mention the narration never failed to be increasingly interesting, as well. Leave it to Stephen Dexter and Natalie Duke to not leave us confused with all the characters in one scene, thanks to their eclectic vocal range/ performance. In the end, they gave me a very satisfying, sweet ending. Apart from the superb narration, Lucy Score, as always weaved a masterful romcom in the guise of scandal and corporate espionage. I never thought they make good plots in a romcom but she was able to pull it off and more. I mentioned earlier this year that these three make the perfect romcom audiobook trifecta and fortunately, it still sticks with this one. I am now itching to devour this trio's backlist, but between that and this series, I think I would need to go over the latter first while this book is still fresh in my mind. For romcom suckers, this book is highly recommended.
