Summary
The only place Suzanna Peacock finds comfort is her shop, which provides a haven for the misfits in town. The Peacock Emporium
Yet another lovely story from Jo Jo Moyes. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a story about a troubled young woman who is unhappy with her life and tries to find herself by opening a little shop, where she can just be herself. Coming from a family who really love her but she cannot see it. And a husband she is unhappy with. This book definitely deserves a read. I would highly recommend it.

The main character is not likable at all and the story if any is very slow moving . Was very disappointed with it

You really have to stick with this book
You really have to stick with this book. I almost gave up but glad I didn't as it's a lovely book with lots of stories within the story. it comes in from different angles and jumps backwards and forwards in time but all makes sense in the end. Beautifully written and it's possibly one of my most enjoyed books recently so stick with it and enjoy it as much as I did.

Get ready for tissues
At first I have to admit I wasn't taken with this. A seemingly spoilt 30 something with mummy and daddy issues but as the story progressed I began thinking that the inevitable storyline shouldn't happen. I'll not spoilt the plot but it's altogether lovely and shocking in equal measures.

Disappointing
I kept on listening hoping it would improve, but for me it didn't. Having read several Jojo Moyes books I really wondered if she actually wrote it! I found it boring and disappointing.

Not up to her standards
Would you ever listen to anything by Jojo Moyes again?
Yes, I like her other novels I have read so far. So I was surprised at how much this novel differed. Of course I would read future novels. I know how good she can be.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The performance was adequate.
What character would you cut from The Peacock Emporium?
I found none of the characters likeable so could not engage with the story because I didn't really care what happened to them. Suzanna was particularly objectionable, whiny, disagreeable, horrible to her husband, lacking in vitality, no interesting features whatsoever. She was one of life's victims, always feeling sorry for herself. Her love object was the typical clichéd Latin lover. Her stepmother came into her own after spending her life as a doormat, which took away from any sympathy one might have had for her husband, Suzanna's father, another spineless victim.
The grandmother was the only character that made me laugh. Cliched as she too was, she reminded me of my late mother-in-law.
Any additional comments?
Have not researched the dates of Jojos's novels but wonder if this is one of her earlier works. A little guidance from her editor might have improved this story.

perhaps unfair expectations
I always look forward to a new Jojo Moyes book as her past books have been beyond expectations and were 6 star ratings if that was possible. This book was enjoyable but did not quite live up other previous books. It will not stop me downloading future books straight away when they come out. It must be difficult to keep up her usual standard all the time.

Great story
I rarely listen to a book twice but this one I did albeit with a 7 year gap. Characters you care about and a bit of a mystery together with a split time story all rolled up with wit and humour. Loved it. Judith Boyd absolutely nailed the narration to round it off perfectly.

The Peacock Emporium
This is a good solid story with aspects of romance and class differences.
The plot was revealed gradually enough to make me keen to keep listening.
However it was completely spoiled for me by the narrator's terrible attempt at the Suffolk accent. Ipswich is NOT in the West Country.
I would have therefore enjoyed the book far more by reading it.

Main Character unlikeable
I LOVE Jojo Moyes' other books, and her writing is just as good in this book, but Suzanna, the main character is so terribly unlikable that it ruined the book for me. the other characters and plotlines in the book were wonderful, but Suzanna, selfish and self-involved, was so unlikable that it spoiled the rest for me. I still love Jojo though. ;)

Loved the book; hated the main character

I've read most of Jojo Moyes books so in my eyes, she can do no wrong. I haven't liked (or even reviewed) all of her books but she does have a way of creating a realistic world with realistic people and she does so again with this one.
I loved this listen! I hated Suzanna. In fact, Suzanna's HEA pissed me off. I suppose Suzanna had reasons for being the way she was, and the author does not portray her as anything but troubled and searching, but the bodies she bowled over in the quest to find herself made me want to smack her. And poor Neil.
At it's core, this book was about love. The long-suffering kind. The loving a child that's not yours kind. The hold on no matter what cost kind. The I love me more than you kind. The if I can't have you no one else will kind. The don't leave me kind.
In the end, some trains collided, some didn't.
I don't get the "slow start" some people have said about this book. I thought the narration was excellent and the books rhythm moved right along for me.

A lovely, moving book
After a bit of a slow and confusing start, the book got hold of my heartstrings and moved me both softly and fiercely. So many lives and so much we dont get at a glance. Lovely read, very good job!

I guess I was in the mood for it.
What made the experience of listening to The Peacock Emporium the most enjoyable?
I remained curious about the characters the entire time and although they were represented as real people with all of the challenges of life, they seems genuine to me. I wasn't triggered or irritated by any of the characters (like I often am with other books) and the entire story seemed believable- as if it were actually a true story.

I liked how real this story seemed to me.

Not sure if I have listened to other books narrated by Judith Boyd but I was very happy with the narration of this book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I didn't have any extreme reactions to this book- unlike "Me Before You" where I cried a lot during that audiobook. This was more of an easy listening book but still interesting and I really like the way it was written.
Any additional comments?
I like Jojo Moyes as an author. I have listened to 4 of her audiobooks and I can not tell they are all done by the same author (unlike other authors I have read where you can tell who wrote it). Sometimes I am struck by her writing style and find it quite pleasing overall. One Plus One was the only book that irritated me by Jojo but I'll save my comments on that!

Not jojo's best
Hard to connect with the main character. The book was all over the place and I found myself wondering who we were talking about. Was hoping Suzanne was going to jump off cliff.

Just couldn't get into it.
What would have made The Peacock Emporium better?
I only got about a hour into it but it was just so slow and not attention grabbing.
What could Jojo Moyes have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
More meat, less fluff. Loved Me Before You and other Jo Jo books

The reader was fabulous!
Good story but what I enjoyed most was Judith Boyd's reading. Her voice is so versatile. Each character, each emotion so well studied. Bravo!
