About this listen

The fate of the Cinder Spires may be decided by crossed swords in the next exhilarating fantasy adventure in the New York Times bestselling series of noble families, swordplay, and airships.

For centuries the Cinder Spires have safeguarded humanity, rising far above the deadly surface world. Within their halls, aristocratic houses rule, developing scientific marvels and building fleets of airships for defence and trade.

Now, the Spires hover on the brink of open war.

Everyone knows it's coming. The guns of the great airship fleets that control the skies between the last bastions of humanity will soon speak in anger, and Spire Albion stands alone against the overwhelming might of Spire Aurora's Armada and its new secret weapon--one capable of destroying the populations of entire Spires.

A trading summit at Spire Olympia provides an opportunity for the Spirearch, Lord Albion, to secure alliances that will shape the outcomes of the war, and to that end he dispatches privateer Captain Francis Madison Grimm and the crew of the AMS Predator to bolster the Spirearch's diplomatic agents.

It will take daring, skill, and no small amount of showmanship to convince the world to stand with Spire Albion--assuming that it is not already too late.

The Olympian Affair

I very much enjoyed this story on Audible, well written and well read. With plenty of action and enough descriptions to visualise the scenes. Nicely following on from the previous book. This is the last book at this time and ends with a suitable cliff hanger for I hope a subsequent book.

Love love love it.

Thoroughly enjoyable book I'm loving this series so much and really can't wait for the next book. All the characters seem real and the world is so intriguing brilliant. I never thought 20 hours could go by so quickly.

Very good narration, Euan has a really interesting voice and does all the voices uniquely he's great to listen to.

good story missed a little extra spice (humor levity quirk or depth)

the story got deeper and more into the big conflict but were book 1 has more levity and humor and curiosities about new characters this part felt more dry ofc war is serious but butcher normaly has more quips and layers in the characters and their conversations and overall more story to a story. I enjoyed it well enough especially the aeronautical parts but it felt because each group of people had their own quest their wasn't time to pad each time line...as if in editing the bulk of what I enjoy in his writing style for sacrificed i can't put my finger on it.. but its a very good story nonetheless.

I can't wait for the next part and I would love to see a confrontation between grim Espera and grim his estranged wife.. I liked Esperas story arc and caracter building the best and can see a akward friendship or mutual respect between the 2 enemies in the next part and the vilain with a heart couldbecome very

Outstanding

Of course these reviews are not only about the narrator; the story and written word also has to be excellent. In this case both are supreme. Euan Morton read the audio for book one in this series and it was perfect. He does a similar job here. Good pace, a few slight accents and nuanced, as good narration should be.

Great second book.

If you enjoyed Aeronauts Windlass you won’t be disappointed.

Great narration and story.

I’m only disappointed that I can’t immediately read the next book.

As someone else said- well worth the wait

I absolutely love this series and hope to read more sooner! Totally intrigued by this world Jim has created- the only disappointment for me was I wanted more of the “naval battles” I enjoyed the ship aspect so much about the first book it sent me on a quest to find something similar (which I sadly couldn’t find)
Other than that I throughly enjoyed the book. Was spot on. More please but this side of 2030 if possible

Long awaited and didn’t disappoint

It’s been too long since the first volume, but this was worth it.
Familiar loved and loathed characters return, enfolded into new layers of adventure, bravery and dry humour as the story continues.
And the cats, as always, are magnificent.
