Summary

Modern-day Atlanta. Driven by his tragic past, prosecutor Chance Meridian seeks justice for a beautiful woman brutally murdered in her own home.

Except nothing comes easy in Atlanta, and certainly not justice. A lot of people in town wanted Sara Barton dead, and every single one of them is lying about something. Chance shouldn't be surprised. Murder is an ugly business. But so is love.

Masterful, fast-paced, and full of intrigue, The Murder of Sara Barton is an intense courtroom drama brimming with suspense.

Slow burning but great impact

Beautifully constructed story, layered and complex. Solid main character, faults and all. The narration grew on me; I disliked the monotone, defeated almost, delivery of the main character at the beginning but got used to it by the end. It may be an accent issue I suppose, I’m not familiar with Atlanta accent, I’m not American. Overall performance was excellent, though. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Interesting character

First just want to say how good the narrator was. This story is very intense with very intense characters. Chance is an interesting character, full of conflicts and at times infuriating - wanted to shout “what are you doing you idiot”, but then that means I cared and was engaged. I realised what the denouement was going to be very early on. But then that may have been the intention. I will listen to the next book and see where it leads.

Clever courtroom drama!

I wanted to know more from the first! The narrator was perfect for the main character - great voice. I was with him all the way as his life unravelled and willed him to keep going. Good twists and the one at the end shocked me so much I gasped out loud. Now I’m off to see if there’s anymore from these two…

I thought I knew how it’d end but I was so wrong!

Really enjoyable! Clever storyline and unexpected twist that I had no idea was coming! I occasionally thought there were too many metaphors and I wished it’d hurry past them, but overall, brilliant. Narration was great apart from the main character is called Sara (as in it rhymes with the Twin sister, Lara) and NOT SARAH!! Every time the narrator said Sarah, I almost shouted, “it’s Sara FGS!” Lol. Would def recommend!

brilliant, I really enjoyed this book.

As usual Christopher lane does an amazing job narrating , The story was brilliant, the characters believable, I did think at the start that it was abit slow, but it was really worth it, 5 stars all round from me.

A debut novel that reads...

...like a well seasoned author. If it didn’t state in the author’s bio that this was a debut I would never have guessed. This is a tense, fast paced legal drama with some great court room scenes. It’s a very TWISTED story with an ending that will knock your socks off! The protagonist is a flawed attorney who makes some really poor decisions. Luckily for him he is able to redeem herself in the end.
Cristopher Lane does an awesome job narrating. I wish he would narrate more mystery/thriller books, his style is unique and is perfectly suited for this type of book.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Captivating!

I was hooked within the first 20 minutes and could not stop listening! Gripping story and deep characters made this book one of my favorites. Lance McMillian did an excellent job keeping this reader on the edge of my seat!

ugh, no, no, no

This book is terrible. The writing is awful, the portrayal of women is disgusting, the men are all lying dogs, and the narration is over the too. All the female characters can't help themselves, they go over to men's home at 2 in the morning to offer their bodies to every single male character in the book. Of course, the women never wear bras! This is all male fantasy writing, clearly the author has some personal issues, or he realizes how lame his story is and has to fill it up with these ridiculous women. I deeply regret this purchase and the time spent listening.

Ridiculous from page one

This story starts with a ridiculous premise and then builds out from there. I suffered through it but had to fight the urge to quit it to end my pain. I am willing to suspend reality for the sake of art, but this story goes too far and then keeps on going.

A good story to listen as I coach mock trial

As a former cop and prosecutor in Georgia I really enjoyed this. It wasn't dead on the money for the investigations parts, but the story the trial prep, and the trial itself were really compelling. I enjoyed hearing about places that I was familiar with.

I had a hard time dealing with some of the ethical decisions that were made by the main character. They were outrageous. The prosecutors that I worked with as both a cop and an attorney have always been honest. I'm the story some of the conduct was extreme, but that was part of the story. it also illustrates what happens when you lower your standards.

As it happens, I'm listening to this as I'm coaching high school mock trial, so I was trying to think of how to use some of the examples with the kids.

I am predisposed to like the book. The author was my favorite professor in law school.

I did not care for the narrator. There aren't a lot of people in Georgia that have an accent that thick. He seemed to be laying it on a bit thick.

Really well done.

I liked this book tremendously. Though I had a good inkling about the surprise ending, I was still interested in every detail of this novel. The narration and writing was impeccable. The author did an amazing job with his debut release. I’m only sad at the amount of time I’ll have to wait for the rest of the series. My only complaint was the amount of the love story that took over the book. I’m not used to romance in legal thrillers. I’d prefer to go without that stuff. But since it all comes together at the end, I guess it was not so bad.

I wasn't looking for an evangelical lecture

The story could have been good, except for the preaching! UGH! Men have to fight their sexual urges against multiple beautiful temptresses. How can they say no?? I hated it! Very sexist and a lot of "my religion teaches me..." garbage

And the slow southern drawl makes it unlistenable even if you could stand the preaching.

Surprised

I wasn’t certain that I was going to like this. I started it twice, but the narrator’s bugged me. But the third time it was not an issue for me (state of mind thing I’m certain) and once I started listening, I really did enjoy it. It didn’t end the way I wanted, but the ending made me wanting more of this character. Enjoyed it

Good ending!

Kind of slow at first, but the ending was good! At times, I felt like the book was a little redundant but overall a great, suspenseful book.
