Summary

The new Logan McRae novel from the No. 1 bestselling author of Close of the Bone and A Song for the Dying.

One mistake can cost you everything…When you catch a twisted killer there should be a reward, right? What Acting Detective Inspector Logan McRae gets instead is a ‘development opportunity' out in the depths of rural Aberdeenshire.

Welcome to divisional policing - catching drug dealers, shop lifters, vandals and the odd escaped farm animal.

Then a little girl's body washes up just outside the sleepy town of Banff, kicking off a massive manhunt. The Major Investigation Team is up from Aberdeen, wanting answers, and they don't care who they trample over to get them.

Logan's got enough on his plate keeping B Division together, but DCI Steel wants him back on her team. As his old colleagues stomp around the countryside, burning bridges, Logan gets dragged deeper and deeper into the investigation.

One thing's clear: there are dangerous predators lurking in the wilds of Aberdeenshire, and not everyone's going to get out of this alive…

Couldn't Put It Down

What did you like most about The Missing and the Dead (Logan McRae, Book 9)?

The characters were so real and the dialogue didn't flag once. It's my first Stuart MacBride and first exposure to Logan McRae.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Missing and the Dead (Logan McRae, Book 9)?

The gallows humour

Have you listened to any of Steve Worsley’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No. But his delivery was excellent

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely

Another Cracking Good Book

What made the experience of listening to The Missing and the Dead (Logan McRae, Book 9) the most enjoyable?

The characters are rounded & well written. The main plot was exciting and the 'background' plot was even more so. I've read or listen to all of this series and have really enjoyed listening to the characters develop over the years.

What other book might you compare The Missing and the Dead (Logan McRae, Book 9) to, and why?

I would compare this to Val McDermid as I love her writing and, like Val McDermid, this author gives a feeling of how people really are; he writes humour within tragic events without undermining the awfulness of the situation.

What about Steve Worsley’s performance did you like?

I like that I am almost unaware of it. There is nothing jarring or annoying that takes you out of the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The times when Logan visits his girlfriend in a coma were hard; I imagine anyone who has been in that situation will be taken back to the bedside, as I was.

Another cracking story!

Continuing the good run of Logan Macrae novels, I really enjoyed this departure from previous settings. Both the uniform/divisional policing and the Aberdeenshire setting gave a fresh perspective. Logan himself continues to be one of my favourite characters - such a flawed hero, but I'm always rooting for him. Steele as always has the best one-liners. Her character is beginning to stretch credulity a little, but she still gives some great images! The story was good - sometimes convoluted, but I think it all came together in the end. Narration was excellent. Keep 'em coming Stuart - loved this!

marvellous entertainment

I could listen to this narrator all day long - in fact that's what I have done. The characters are real and feel like friends, enemies and colleagues. The storylines are twisty and never predictable. and I hate the IA man, what a nasty piece of work! poor logan!

Another great Logan book

I've now listened to all the unabridged Logan books and this one didn't disappoint! Love Steele - she has a heart there somewhere!

You do need to listen to these in order as the background follows through the series. Another great listen from MacBride - more please....

not the best

Having listened to all of Stuart Macbrides book this is my least favourite. I found it slow paced and only got going towards the end. If it was to portray his boredom for the job move it did a good job.

Very enjoyable ,

Good balance of charictor descriptions story and area of Scotland .
The mix of horror and tragedy the cases being investigated offset by the humor and day to day life situations.
The call signs became a bit repetitive .
Rivalry mistakes and the not always perfect police made it an enjoyable listen. A bit let down by the pool episode at the end.
