Better than the first
A good follow on from the first book. I enjoyed getting to know the characters better, not sure I would want to hang out with them if they were real though! Although realism was stretched to capacity in places it didn’t distract from the story for me. Worth a listen, if you’re a fan of this author.

Less unremitting that its prequel
Excellent narrator. Love this author but the 1st Ash Henderson book was dark and depressing and I nearly didn't risk this one. It has a slightly lighter tone throughout along with the usual excellent characters and plotting but lacks for me the humour of logan macrae which helps alongside the grim murder.

Great read
As always Stuart MacBride surpasses previous books, this is the second of three and keeps you rooting for Ash, looking forward to the third, hope it's not the last

Gritty entertainment
Ash is a very grey 'hero' - short tempered, aggressive & unremorseful, he doesn't seem that far away from the criminals he chases. The most unbelievable bit for me is that he doesn't strangle Dr Alice, a doctor who talks about 'tummies' & is so little girly that she could never survive either the medical or the police world. Other than that, entertaining but gory.

Brilliant story made better by fantastic narration
What made the experience of listening to A Song for the Dying the most enjoyable?
The headline says it all. I don't normally bother writing reviews but this audiobook was so good I wanted to acknowledge it.
