Summary
Do you believe in lucky charms?
While in Iraq, US Marine Logan Thibault finds a photo, half buried in the dirt, of a woman. He carries it in his pocket, and from then on his luck begins to change. Back home, Logan is haunted by thoughts of war.
Over time, he becomes convinced that the woman in the photo holds the key to his destiny. So he finds the vulnerable and loving Beth, and a passionate romance begins. But Logan battles with the one secret he has kept from Beth: how he found her in the first place. And it is a secret that could utterly destroy everything they love....
Critic reviews
“There are only two people who can get away with writing chick-lit: Jodi Picoult and Nicholas Sparks...Sparks has delivered another brilliantly addictive read.” (London Lite)
"A strictly curl-up-on-the-sofa-on-your-own affair...A guiltier than guilty pleasure - race through it with lots of tissues." (Heat)
"Sparks writes unashamedly romantic novels that make women weak at the knees...Once again, Sparks certainly flies." (Closer)

Better that the movie, of course.
So I watched the film on Netflix the other day and loved it, then realised it was based on a book and just knew that the book would have so much more so I downloaded it and binge read it today. It’s a great story and the narrator reads it well.

Nicholas Sparks does it again
I said it before and I will say it again, Nicholas Sparks is a master storyteller. And this story is no exception. This book has everything you could want, excitement, romance, goodies, baddies, love, adventure, you name it and it probably has it. The narration was okay except for the attempts at the female voice. Why oh why can’t authors use genuine female voices to read female parts??? It ruins the listening pleasure when a man impersonates a female voice and it makes no sense why a female voice is not used for those parts. Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book.

Sweet story
Nice Story, spoilt by the narraters silly voice for female characters, sounded like a man in drag. A shame. Would not recommend from that point of view.

review of 'The Lucky One'
This was the very 1st audiobook I downloaded. I felt very stuck for choice initially so thought I'd opt for one that would generally appeal as not a 'heavy' read. I was right, this book was enjoyable. The characters were well described & there was enough going on plot wise to keep me interested. Not the typical 'happy ending' either which can get tiresome.

Captivating and heartwarming
What made the experience of listening to The Lucky One the most enjoyable?
The story is beautiful, slowly weaving you into the fabric of the world created by Sparks and the narrator is eloquent and captures each of the several voices so well that one can immediately tell one from the other
Who was your favorite character and why?
Logan is one of those men one hopes to meet in real life but the dog Zeus takes the cake!
What does John Bedford Lloyd bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
As I said earlier, the way he captured each voice of the tale brings a dimension to the story I probably would have missed myself in reading the book
If you could take any character from The Lucky One out to dinner, who would it be and why?
I can't really take the dog and Logan seems to predictable so Nana to glean her wisdom and enjoy her life stories and wry wit!
