Story
The grieving widower. The motherless daughters. A beautiful house in the woods. Deep in a remote Norwegian forest, Lexi has found a new home with architect Tom and his two young daughters. With snow underfoot and the sound of the nearby fjord in her ears, it’s as if Lexi has stepped into a fairy tale. But this family has a history – and this place has a past. Something was destroyed to build their beautiful new house. And those ancient, whispering woods have a long memory. Lexi begins to hear things, see things that don’t make sense.

Story
Ellen was just trying to help a stranger. That was how it started: giving a few minutes respite to a flustered young mother sitting opposite her on the train. A few minutes holding her baby while the mother makes an urgent call. The weight of the child in her arms making Ellen's heart ache for what she can never have. Five minutes pass. Ten. The train pulls into a station and Ellen is stunned to see the mother hurrying away down the platform without looking back.

Our bones are the silent witnesses to the lives we lead. Our stories are marbled into their marrow. Drawing upon her years of research and a wealth of remarkable experience, the world-renowned forensic anthropologist Dame Sue Black takes us on a journey of revelation. From skull to feet, via the face, spine, chest, arms, hands, pelvis and legs, she shows that each part of us has a tale to tell. What we eat, where we go, everything we do leaves a trace, a message that waits patiently for months, years, sometimes centuries, until a forensic anthropologist is called upon to decipher it.

Some landscapes hold more magic than others. Artist Laura Matthews finds her new home in the Welsh mountains to be a place so charged with tales and legends, so teeming with the force of the supernatural, that she is able to reach through the gossamer-fine veil that separates her own world from that of myth and fable. She and her husband, Dan, have given up their city life and moved to Blaencwm, an ancient longhouse high in the hills.

Summary
Upon the cliffs of a remote Scottish island, Lòn Haven, stands a lighthouse.
A lighthouse that weathered more than storms.
Mysterious and terrible events have happened on this island. It started with a witch hunt. Now, centuries later, islanders are vanishing without explanation.
Coincidence? Or curse?
Liv Stay flees to the island with her three daughters, in search of a home. She doesn’t believe in witches, or dark omens, or hauntings. But within months, her daughter Luna will be the only one of them left.
Twenty years later, Luna is drawn back to the place her family vanished. As the last sister left, it’s up to her to find out the truth....
But what really happened at the lighthouse all those years ago?

The Lighthouse Witches
This was a good story although I feel the format switching the time period made so regularly it a little difficult to follow the various characters and their family interactions with a constantly ages of the various characters, I don’t want to spoil the story so can’t really go into detail, but I believe the time frames required greater depth and fewer switches.

I can’t see what all the fuss is about.
There is potentially a good story in there somewhere. The story is well written from an academic perspective, however, plot flaws abound, the constant going back and forth through time lines can be difficult to keep up with. Some of the reactions of characters- to traumatic events - can be quite benign or indifferent, dragging me out of the story, when I tried hard to give it a chance.

very enjoyable!1
when i think of gothic literature i, like most, think of haunted victorian manors or dwindling aristoracy with dark secrets. This story however managed to perfectly take the growing unease and horror of the gothic and transplant it into the 2020s. the story is the kind i was hoping the magic toy shop would be, way back when. An excellent read/listen for fans of the genre and i hope to find more from the author in the future.

Did not engage with this story
Dreary and dragged. Didn't finish it. Couldn't relate to any of the characters and did not care what happened to them. Also, modern vernacular in what was supposed to be an ancient document and conversations set in the past. And no mention of Covid in the present day? Narrator was good.
