Summary

A good read
I enjoyed this book but it was not quite as good as the first book in the series. It was very well read but the plot was predictable and in some ways disappointing. I disliked the heavy hint at the end of the book about the direction of the next book.
I didn't like having the first chapter of the next book tagged on to the end of this book. It put me off wanting to buy it and I decided to take a break from this series of books. The narrator was excellent, a joy to listen to.

Another good detective story
I'm enjoying these stories. We are gradually getting to know the main characters with their faults and foibles. A good detective story to go with it and DCI Daley getting one over his boss. Well worth a credit.

Keeps getting better
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is really good,engrossing story. Complex enough to keep you thinking but very easy to listen to. A very gripping end, with the promise of more!

A GOOD PLOT.

Yes but too long for that unless in bed convalescing!

There were so many characters that I was muddled and didn't really sort them out by the end, but it didn't stop me listening right through to the final page and the start of the next book!

Great second book if not better than first. David Monteath does a brilliant job of bringing the characters to life. Book 3 already to go and 4 and 5 in wish list

Denzil Meyrick continues to delight
This is the second book in the series with DCI Daley settling into his job in the town of Kinloch and faced with a complex case in which a gangster, believed dead, resurfaces bent on revenge. His sights are set on the criminal who gave evidence against him, now in witness protection, as well as the police officers involved in his case. Added to the mix are smuggling and police corruption that keep the story twisting and turning. A dark, gritty detective story but oh so much more!
There is never a dull moment with humour provided by the colourful inhabitants of Kinloch and the relationship between DCI Daley and DS Scott. The descriptions of Kinloch itself are very atmospheric and you quickly get drawn in to the goings on in the community.
I hate bad language in everyday speech and used gratuitously in books/drama to be honest - there is plenty of quite foul language in these books at times but somehow it feels very honest and natural!
Just discovered that Denzil Meyrick is at this year’s Edinburgh Book Festival- will definitely be trying to get tickets!

Good but not as good as the first.
The story of this book is much more convoluted than the last and the mystery's solution isn't nearly as satisfying. I'm normally quite good with this sort of thing and I'm still not quite sure who did what in some parts.
Everyone has guns too, even some Semtex, which seems odd for a story set in Scotland. Donald gets a backstory that he didn't need. Lot more fluff around this one.
It's still a compelling read with great narration but this one pushes the envelope of believability a bit.

Good story excellent narration
This is a great series. I purchased purely on the narration as i find David Monteath extremely easy to listen to and the books he reads are brought to life.
Enjoying the series and off to get the next book - worth a credit for me and pleased I have a new series to get into.
