Summary

“Don’t go in the guest bedroom.” A shadow falls on Douglas Garrick’s face as he touches the door with his fingertips. “My wife...she’s very ill.” As he continues showing me their incredible penthouse apartment, I have a terrible feeling about the woman behind closed doors. But I can’t risk losing this job—not if I want to keep my darkest secret safe....

It’s hard to find an employer who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want.

It’s almost perfect. But I still haven’t met Mrs Garrick, or seen inside the guest bedroom. I’m sure I hear her crying. I notice spots of blood around the neck of her white nightgowns when I’m doing laundry. And one day I can’t help but knock on the door. When it gently swings open, what I see inside changes everything....

That’s when I make a promise. After all, I’ve done this before. I can protect Mrs. Garrick while keeping my own secrets locked up safe.

Douglas Garrick has done wrong. He is going to pay. It’s simply a question of how far I’m willing to go....

Anyone who loves The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose, The Woman in the Window, and Gone Girl will be totally hooked! This book can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone.

the housemaid secret.

A good book but unfortunately found it predictable and guess most of the plot. The first book was better.

A decent read

I enjoyed The Housemaid by the same author, so had to read the follow up, The Housemaid’s Secret.

The Housemaid’s Secret follows Millie from the first book. She’s just been sacked from her job and is desperate for work, she feels very fortunate to get a very well paid job working for the Garricks. Millie feels like something is off, she isn’t allowed to speak with Wendy and when she’s glimpsed her she’s been very thin and bruised.
Millie does everything she can to help Wendy, but can she be trusted?

This book pretty much follows a similar formula to the first one, and you do need to suspend disbelief a bit. Despite this, it’s still an enjoyable enough, easy read.

The narrator is good, even if her voice is a bit irritating.

Even though this book is technically following on from the first one, it works as a standalone.

I didn’t find this book as well paced as the first one and it was a little predictable at times. However, I would still recommend it as an easy read.

Another good one

Really enjoyed this book. The author has a good ability to build tension and the protagonist is likeable. Hope there’s more!

Good but not great

My journey with Freida began with the Housemaid and since then I've read all her thrillers. Unfortunately, while the sequel was still an entertaining read it did not live up to my expectations. I felt like it didn't have as much suspense and thrill as I was hoping for. Personally, I preferred the first book in the series which kept me on the edge more and I couldn't put down. Despite this I look forward to more books from the author. Not every book will meet my expectations and this goes for my other fav authors as well.

A page turner!!!

Another great book from Frieda, I enjoyed the twists. Great writing and easy to follow storyline. After the first book of the housemaid, I was expecting something different than what I listened to. It's still a good story but didn't feel up to being called a sequel. like it was written just to serve the readers who were asking for a sequel. I think if more thought and time went into the book, it could have been even better. These are my opinions. Again, it was a great story if you consider it a stand-alone and not a sequel

Very disappointing

I feel like this was just a quickly written book off the back of the first housemaid. I didn’t enjoy it much. I absolutely loved the first one so I’m disappointed.

Recycled & Remixed

The Housemaid's Secret by Freida McFadden
The Housemaid #2
9h 44m narrated by Lauryn Allman pages 318

Genre: Mystery Thriller, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Adult Fiction, Crime Thriller

Featuring: New York; Cleaning, Craziness, Mistreatment, Violence, Money Problems, Secrets

Rating as a movie: R for adult content

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½

My thoughts: 📱63% 6:09:01 Ch. 47 - What in the recycled format is this? I was kind of bored with this story but I was going to praise it for originality until I found myself back in book one. I should have known this was gonna be a remix script with a different cast.
📱85% 8:19:07 Ch. 64 - Better I guess, I can see the ending. I'll finish this after bedtime.

The fourth part saved this book. It was better than okay. I liked the first book more so I was surprised they got the same rating.

Recommend to others?: Sure. It's not an amazing story but it's not bad.

I was hoping the second book would be better than the first. Not the case.

I could have guessed, within the first few minutes, that this wasn’t any different than the previous book. I was hoping it would have been better.
She needs to get a different narrator and up her game.

IDK…

This novel is simply ok to me. Definitely not as good as the first novel. The narrator mispronounces the most basic words and it’s ridiculous. I noticed this in the first novel but overlooked it because I really enjoyed the first one. Now that I’m not enjoying this novel her many mispronunciations is blatantly obvious. She also sounds a little to old to be the voice of Millie.

The story itself is rather boring. I don’t know how many times we have to hear about Millie and her boyfriend or his lavish apartment or her basic apartment. I was also tired of hearing about how skinny and frail Wendy is. Ok we get it. I highly recommend the first novel. I do not recommend this one.

The housemaid was one of my first books by Freida McFadden. I’ve read many of her other books but this series is my favorite. I absolutely loved it!

FREIDA NEVER FAILS

THE HOUSEMAID and THE HOUSEMAID'S SECRET, wow, what a ride. FreidaMcFadden's books are like your favorite food, one that you can only get on special occasions, you run for it, you can't slow yourself down because it's sooooo good and once you gobbled it up you emediatlely crave more. Do you like audible? The narrator of these two books does an excellent job bringing the characters to life. A full cast of actors couldn't do it better!! There's nothing like a sweet, hard working vigilante housemaid (deliberately left out the word 'innocent'). Now, the rest is up to you, go discover the captivating, enthralling, stories of Millie, the housemaid.

It's pretty good for a second book.

I enjoyed this book for the most part. I wanted to scream how the narrator said Mazda and Hyundai, but everyone says things differently. A couple of unnecessary F bombs in both her books I've read, but I kept on listening as it wasn't every other word. As for the story, it was entertaining.

Good but distracting narration

I liked this better than the first one. Interesting twists. The narration was a little distracting. The pronunciation of Hyundai was ridiculous lol! Overall, good read!

Just ok

Kind of entertaining and a quick read. I had a problem with the narrator. The New York accent was a bit over done and some of the pronunciations of words were weird to me and I’m a native New Yorker. Albany pronounced Al benee?? No it’s All benee. That one was annoying🥴

Couldn’t put it down!

I’m not usually into suspenseful books like this. But my sister Inlaw recommended it. I listened to the first house maid book on a road trip and finished it . The next day I had to read House Maid secrets and OMGOODNESS!! I canceled my vacation plans and ended up staying in my hotel listening to it…I have no regrets about that decision. I’m definitely a fan now!

Couldn’t finish it

I had to stop listening. I was hoping to like it and I did enjoy the first few chapters but then I couldn’t take anymore ridiculously dumb moves by the main character.
