As he begins his work, he is struck by the questions his research raises: what, exactly, is being hidden from the thousands who live in the town?

The Boring Season
These were not so much haunting but boring unfortunately. I had hoped for something a bit more interesting/spooky/suspenseful and these were lacking entirely. I had to stop listening in the end and have returned the title as not worth the credit. The narration/performance for the most part was fine.

Not worth a credit
A few of the stories were ok. The narration left a lot to be desired. Note for narrators.....STOP TRYING TO DO ACCENTS! Bad accents can ruin an entire story.
The last one was the biggest load of rubbish, it was supposed to be a ghostly (period) tale of the journey into madness but for some reason the author thought it needed a random peppering of sex paragraphs, that made no sense and were unnecessarily vulgar.
Total waste of time!

Eight eerie tales, beautifully read
Bitesize slightly supernatural chillers with a Victorian feel. At just an hour each, the stories focus on atmosphere rather than intricate plots and characters.
They’re nicely eerie although a little insubstantial. And while beautifully read, I found them perkier and less laboured at 1.15 speed.
My favourites were The Eel Singers and The Hanging of the Greens but this is probably as they’re by authors I like.
1-A Study in Black and White - Bridget Collins (Rory Kinnear)
2-Thwaite's Tenant - Imogen Hermes Gowar (Gemma Whelan)
3-The Eel Singers - Natasha Pulley (Juliet Stevenson)
4-Lily Wilt - Jess Kidd (Rosalind Eleazar)
5-The Chillingham Chair - Laura Purcell (Gemma Whelan)
6-The Hanging of the Greens - Andrew Michael Hurley (Rory Kinnear)
7-Confinement - Kiran Millwood Hargrave (Rosalind Eleazar)
8-Monster - Elizabeth Macneal (Juliet Stevenson)
