Now eight best-selling, award-winning authors - all of them master storytellers of the sinister and the macabre - bring the tradition to vivid life in a spellbinding new collection of original spine-tingling tales.

Taking you from the frosty Fens to the wild Yorkshire moors, to the snow-covered grounds of a haunted estate, to a bustling London Christmas market, these mesmerizing stories will capture your imagination and serve as your indispensable companion to cold, dark nights.

The Boring Season

These were not so much haunting but boring unfortunately. I had hoped for something a bit more interesting/spooky/suspenseful and these were lacking entirely. I had to stop listening in the end and have returned the title as not worth the credit. The narration/performance for the most part was fine.

Not what I thought

I really liked the idea of this book of separate ghost stories but unfortunately I found the stories quite boring. This was a shame as I quite enjoyed the narrators

Not worth a credit

A few of the stories were ok. The narration left a lot to be desired. Note for narrators.....STOP TRYING TO DO ACCENTS! Bad accents can ruin an entire story.
The last one was the biggest load of rubbish, it was supposed to be a ghostly (period) tale of the journey into madness but for some reason the author thought it needed a random peppering of sex paragraphs, that made no sense and were unnecessarily vulgar.
Total waste of time!

Classic ghost stories

I've read quite a few stories from these authors and these short ghost stories do not disappoint. Wait until night falls, turn the lights down and get ready to be spooked!

Eight eerie tales, beautifully read

Bitesize slightly supernatural chillers with a Victorian feel. At just an hour each, the stories focus on atmosphere rather than intricate plots and characters.
They’re nicely eerie although a little insubstantial. And while beautifully read, I found them perkier and less laboured at 1.15 speed.
My favourites were The Eel Singers and The Hanging of the Greens but this is probably as they’re by authors I like.

1-A Study in Black and White - Bridget Collins (Rory Kinnear)
2-Thwaite's Tenant - Imogen Hermes Gowar (Gemma Whelan)
3-The Eel Singers - Natasha Pulley (Juliet Stevenson)
4-Lily Wilt - Jess Kidd (Rosalind Eleazar)
5-The Chillingham Chair - Laura Purcell (Gemma Whelan)
6-The Hanging of the Greens - Andrew Michael Hurley (Rory Kinnear)
7-Confinement - Kiran Millwood Hargrave (Rosalind Eleazar)
8-Monster - Elizabeth Macneal (Juliet Stevenson)

A bit slow

Performances a little stilted at lacking in expression at times. The stories have a slower pace. I found the first two stories much more engaging than the rest.

Not haunting at all

Excellent narration, but the stories weren’t haunting or as spooky as I’d hoped. I only enjoyed one of them - the rest were a bit dull.

Not as it seems

Very boring, not as I wished. Just one story was good in my opinion. Not even finished as didn’t find it interesting.
