Like lightning, the plague moves across the globe, spreading out in all directions and leaving few alive. But the end is only the beginning.
Discovered in the Alaskan permafrost, the ancient virus was reanimated and genetically altered. The new strain showed great promise in curing many of mankind's afflictions. When the specimen fell into the hands of the Russian theocracy, their inept scientists attempted to create a biological weapon - a weapon that outsmarted them. Now, the androvirus is a deadly airborne plague, conquering the world in a matter of days. With a communicability of 100% and a mortality rate of over 90%, there is no immunity. For the survivors, who can suppress the virus, there is only change. A few adapt, but most become walking, talking gray horrors with an appetite for flesh.
Primarily set in the American city of Memphis, four loosely-connected strangers, caught up in their lives, find their worlds annihilated by the swiftly-moving plague. Alex Connelly is a wealthy young executive, living an idyllic life with his pregnant wife, Madison. Kirk Foster is a self-absorbed aging gay man, desperate to hang onto his youth and sex appeal. Meredith Brinkley's ongoing war with breast cancer takes a turn for the worse, and she faces an impending double mastectomy. Logan King is a closeted baseball jock, playing for a minor league team while coming to terms with his true identity. And only together will they survive....

Please note: There are straight and gay characters and a few that exist somewhere in between. There are characters of different races and religious backgrounds. There are opinionated characters. Ham performance
Story OK, but I sense a TV deal drove the storyline. Narrator's attempt at Australian accent laughable, ditto most of the women.

Enjoyable
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
For the most part I enjoyed this and would probably look for the sequel. Given that, the author spends 2/3rds of this book - some 20 hours setting the scene and introducing the characters and their backstories. Then in order to bring the book to a close the last section feels very rushed; there are a few one dimensional "evil" characters introduced who swiftly get their comeuppance and everything comes together. Having said that, I enjoyed the narration and the idea.

What could Keegan Kennedy have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Remove the descriptions of sex.

While the narrator did a sterling job, the storyline was poor. The caracters seemed more interested in having sex than the impending end of the world. While that could have been tolerated the long rambling sex scenes just didn't fit into this type of story. I has no interest in how large a blokes penis was or how big a women's brests were while they were lay on a bed breathing their last. The main caracters seems to think back to the last time they had sex with the unfortunate dying before their eyes. I didn't finish the book as it was just to sex based for this type of book. If you stick around I'm sure the remaining population of the earth will grease themselves up and indulge in some Romano Greek wrestling.

A good book ruined
I kind of enjoyed this book the world that was created was quite good. but it was totally ruined by all the graphic sex take that out and you've got a very good book

Not for me
If you like books that use words like "Goons" and phrases like "Gorilla like storm troopers" then this is a book for you. If you prefer a little more subtley, then I suggest you look elsewhere.
