About this listen

Welcome to the Goblin Corps. May the best man lose.

Morthûl, the dreaded Charnel King, has failed. Centuries of plotting from the heart of the Iron Keep, deep within the dark lands of Kirol Syrreth—all for naught. Foiled at the last by the bumbling efforts of a laughable band of so-called heroes. Still, after uncounted centuries of survival, the Dark Lord isn’t about to go down without a fight, particularly in battle against a mortal! No, the Charnel King still has a few tricks up his putrid and tattered sleeves, and the only thing that can defeat him now may just be the inhuman soldiers on whom he’s pinned his last hopes.

A unique and outstanding audiobook

I have listened to lots of fantasy stories and this title was fantastic and a refreshing change, I find the coming of age hero stories tiresome and boring. The Goblin Corps allowed me to experience what its like to oppose the heroes and be on the side of the evil magic user.

Other titles have promised this and not delivered or lacked the resolve to be really bad and ruthless. The Goblin Corps embrace this it's who they are and won't apologise for it, if they do they won't mean it.

The insight into how the enemy acts was enjoyable too.

The characters are varied, they are direct, cunning, stupid and bickering is a part of life. There are some very funny lines, great insults and very creative metaphors. I laughed until my sides hurt. The humour I don't think will appeal to everyone but I loved it.

The narrator does an exceptional job, the voices bring the characters to life and lets their personality shine through. I found the text harder to appreciate the audiobook has been a joy to listen to. Some characters could not have been easy to voice.

The story is long which I like as it allowed the story to be explored fully in a single story not divided into a trilogy which makes a nice change. The pace is good I was never bored. There are some nice twists but I was sad when the story ended.

The author and narrator deserve thanks for their hard work. I would recommend this title to anyone who likes the villain. A highly entertaining listen.
