Summary
Disillusioned businessman, John Lawrence Locke, finds himself summoned as a hero to another world, filled with monsters and magic! With his body reverted to the age of 15, the 33-year-old's mind is filled with the possibility of battles and adventures, like the ones in his favorite video games.
Unfortunately for him, life isn't always so convenient. Betrayed by the very people who summoned him, he's condemned as the False Hero and forced to flee for his life. Alone in an unfamiliar world and hunted by all of humanity, he takes on the alias of Lutz and uses his gaming knowledge to quickly adapt to the world's strangely game-like mechanics.

not bad not good
Author writes like a middle schooler, the story is more or less Shield Hero, narrator mispronounces an annoying amount of words, as the tag says not bad but certainly not good, don't feel put out as it's a box set.

poor narrator
the story is ok, but the narrator must be new or something. most if not all the characters sound the same. i think there are only two voices, men n women.
Also, the man character forgives the princess way too easy and gives up all his secrets.

Okay Story, Poor Narration
The story is alright, it's easy to follow and engaging enough. I've seen comparisons to the Shield Hero about similarities in the story line, but I found the Shield Hero rather boring personally.
The narration on the other hand is quite poor. I do wonder if said narrator ever read this ahead in the story before starting their recording. Borne seems to insert pauses randomly and emphasizes the wrong words mid sentence. Weirdly, spoken dialogue is fine but when moving from dialogue to narration things go wrong. Borne is over acting which hits the pacing and Immersion.
Okay story, poor narration.
Bearable enough though, so if you want some litrpg stuff, then give it a listen.

People need to calm down
This was an entertaining story. All the people saying it is a shield hero ripoff do you believe shield hero was the first ever story of its kind? Of course not. And the one review claiming it has pedophilia is either outright lying or never actually listened to the book. I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the rest.

Too many pedophilia vibes
So it is an interesting story and world. That said, its very similar to Rising of the shield hero. The biggest downside is the intense pedophile vibes this book gives off. Its to the point that I feel uncomfortable listening. Numerous times there are women described as luscious or the villains talk about raping them. Until you remember that every main character in this series is between the ages of 8 and 15. This series would have been excellent if the ages were older, but having the whole dark hero story with everyone having dark and painful pasts isn't great with everyone being elementary and middle schooler age. I can not in good conscience recommend anyone to read this series.

Terrible narrator
while the story is very entertaining the narrator is terrible he has no inflection and everyone sounds the same at least I can tell the difference between girls and boys because he changes his voice a little bit other than that every single character sounds the same you can't tell which character is talking

Fan Fiction
I made it to book five.
Book one is heavily based on Shield Hero(hence why I call it fanfiction).
By book two it comes into its own.
By book three there is a running joke that there is a harem forming.
The narrator ................... pace and emotion was ok. I sounds like he can do 2.5 voices max. every character sound so alike it was hard to follow who said what at times.
Spoiler Alert
Nothing happens in regards to harem action by book 5.

Alternative Shield Hero
I must say that this is very close to shield hero. With a lot of the same premise and tropes. However if you give it a chance it will shine through on its own. I will say it's definitely written for teens and if you have a more mature sounding MC in mind this may not be for you. Mason Born does an excellent job narrating.

Loved it
This series is too good, Way too good. Here's how we're gonna review this it's gonna be 1st book through 3rd book then the conclusion.
1st book. this one has to be the best of them all. The build up to the second. The way the false hero is built it was like he was embracing the false hero of course he was going to from the very start but it was nice to see it build up. The 1st book also had the most character progression out of all the books, the 1st book was like him really being isekaied into a new world and gaining strength at a really fast rate, that's why it's safe to say this book is fast paced. I couldn't say the the Mc had depth in this first book tho, especially with the amateur narrator doing this book, The narrator wasn't really good at all the thing I did like about him tho is the emotions he puts into his words. What I mean by him being amateur or bad is he can't change his voice most of his voices sound very alike and it's hard to tell them apart unless your listening very hard or you have them recognized to the Tee.
2nd Book. This one has to be the 2nd best out of all three. in this book he expanded his power and got more people into his group while also making them stronger. Really this book just is filler for him to get stronger essentially filling out what book 1 couldn't do. The narrator did get better in this one but not so much. But this book even tho I think it was filler from the actual goal was really good.
3rd book. This one has to be the worst out of all of the 3 books. Especially the end. The start and middle of this book are actually really good but the end is lacking. This 3rd book seemed really rushed with him getting separated from his group and helping the princess. But that all said this book has to have the most world building.
Pros. I really like this series. The fighting is unique and the way he uses his knowledge from the other world to beat his opponents is awesome. he's overpowered compared to most of his enemy's which is kinda of a double edged sword. The "harem" he has is also kinda nice, the characters are likable and the Mc actually have a backbone. he doesn't just let people walk all over him.
Cons. I don't like how he tells the princess all his secrets for no reason whatsoever. it usually happens in most series the Mc tells the side character all of his secrets and the side character is still a mystery so the Mc doesn't ask because he's "scared" to make her mad. it just doesn't make sense to me. The lack of strength in the last 2 books are a problem as well. he barely gains any levels in these last 2 books. Also what i said about the double edged sword. it's about how weak everyone is the Mc doesn't really face any hardship throughout the series. some parts are also kinda corny with the narrator but you laugh at them.
Conclusion. This series is kinda of a must buy. it reminds me of the shield hero and virgils pact. With how the Mc is are transported to another world and the other heroes don't like him. So yea if you like Isekais you wanna get this, and we audible fans know it's hard to come by light novels.

Solid Mediocrity All Round
First off, the overall plot is very similar to Rise of the Shield Hero - not a bad thing! I love reading new takes on familiar tropes or themes. The story is entertaining and light enough that I was able to listen while doing crafts.
The problem for me is twofold. First, the slavery. I don't like it in Shield Hero and I don't like it here, but I don't expect a Japanese author to consider the topic's sensitive history in the US. I just didn't feel like the MC was as pissed off as he should have been, especially after being at the mercy of someone else for so long.
I know individual master/slave dynamic can be fun and consentual, but there, you run into my second problem. Creep factor. Even if he looks like a teen, MC is mentally in his 30s, while his flock of cute female companions range from 12 to 16. Any way you try to swing that, it's creepy. It's like a bunch of middle school kids crushing on a teacher and calling him "master." It's weird.
I know MC hasn't done anything with them and states several times that he won't, but the girls seem dead serious about changing his mind, and I'm over here like: "No - No, honey you're twelve. Stop. Please."
Last issue I had was with the narration. The reader tends to pause in strange places or place stress on odd words. It wasn't a deal breaker, but it was mildly distracting.
So, again, not terrible. Not the best, but not the worst either. Solid C+ overall.

I love the story and I love the box set. This story reminds me of the sheild hero but with the main character less limited.
