Summary
Ian beat the system, but he'll quickly learn the real world wasn't as safe as he remembered.
Threats are rising, placing Ian in the crosshairs of global conflict. Reunited with an old ally from the loop, he must prepare to take part in an international tournament where the most powerful practitioners in the world fight for dominance.
And unbeknownst to all, a calamity looms overhead - a continent-shattering trial that only Ian can stop.

Different feel than the first book but still great
The narration is easy to listen to and well done. The story feels different to the first one for obvious reasons without spoilers and I'm enjoying it a lot. A great example of the progressive fantasy genre. I look forward to the rest of the series!

An improvement from the first - A true hidden gem
Labeled as 'A hidden Gem' by Audible, I was skeptic. The first book was a bit random.
However this book is much better with a clear structure and character depth.
Tbe main character's actions are justifiable and not annoying at all.
The reader also did a great job giving life to the characters with a huge improvement than the first.
There are some confusing elements in the story, and with stuff not exactly explained. Hopefully they will be addressed in the future books.
Looking forward to starting the next books!

not quite as good as #1 but still good
it was a good continuation of the first but felt kinda like the whole book was nothing but setup not much of matter actually happened.... he moved and won the fight.... that's about what it boiled down to hope more happens in #3

Not as good as book 1 or book 3 but very solid
Backtracking on reviews, but book 2 here is mostly growing the characters and world out. Not as action pack but goes deeper into the affinities and the end gets really good.

I enjoy the story but...
It's a really solid story and I really am enjoying most of it. But I'm kinda annoyed that the mc is still cowed by his mom and aunt. I sometimes feel like the stuff he went through doesn't effect him much. Ppl say he's changed but he was more resolute in the loop than irl. Ig it makes sense in a number of ways and situations but imo I feel like he should show a lil more mental damage and anger towards the ppl that put him in the situation. Some more internal conflict wouldve made the convos between his aunt more of an interesting storyline.
I'd like to think I'm not suggesting him to be more edgy or overly angsty, but a cold/stoic and more confident ver of his former introverted nature but still able to joke here and there so he's not going towards the edgy route.
I support him being mature and logical about things and not holding thing over their heads cuz it is true that u can't change the past but there are times where I'd wish he'd tell his mom or aunt off outside of the loop cuz honestly they still are hollow bullies and imo the end don't justify the means in this case. They went from having a bright but unfortunate child to worrying about a walking nuke of a person their gov wants to control.
I understand his mom being hard on him since they are still nobles. So maybe I'm being petty and him not being upset is something he learned in the loop. Yet I can't get over the fact that there should be more evidence of his trauma and a smidge of insanity. Imagine you being a loop you have no clue how to solve for three years and then another year for the rest to get out?

Creative writing.
I just wanted to point out a small, but significant detail that points out the competency of the writer.
When writing the segments taking place in the loop, it's in first person, showing how that world literally revols around them. While outside the loop, the writing is in third person, showing the opposite. Great writing choice.

good read
the 1st book in this series was rough and hard to follow but this second book definitely helped explain a lot of it and bring ya into the next saga of Ian perfectly. worth the credit

Decent book, except…
One major problem with this book is that the protagonist doesn’t seem to be growing very much. Yes, he’s getting more powerful, but the aspects of his personality that are not related to combat don’t seem to be developing very much. There were some uncomfortable attempts at love interests, one of which was extremely uncomfortable, but didn’t go anywhere regretfully/thankfully… yeah.
