Amazing Amazing stuff

I know this promotes Uncle Sam in a thick positive light, but can’t lie that this has been one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to in a long time. It had me chuckling to myself sometimes & the level of detail was just staggering. Also learned quite a few things i.e. the Somalian Pirates weren’t generally a bunch of amateurs, but businessmen who were professionals at what they did. Additionally, the Navy Seal’s best of the best were capable of wreaking incredible havoc in a flash. Overall a really good listen. Loved the excitement in the narration, however the portrayal of accents was a bit dodgy but not a big deal.

Good story. Disappointing narration

Not a bad story but could of been so much better with a good narrator. The accents were pretty bad and didn’t seem to change much. Bit like a Hollywood blockbuster acted by over eager Unknown’s. Sorry.

USA single handedly saves the world.

Great story and we'll narrated. Writer goes out of his way to eliminate obvious and critical support in the story. Checking maps for locations and facts like the nerd I am, it is clear to me this story (and I must remember it is well written fiction) is aimed at the US audience. Great story and I recommend this read.

Early promise poor ending

You know what you are getting with Patrick Robinson. The full on US exceptionalism and lots of descriptions of military hardware is to the fore. Two thirds of the book is interesting as the plot centres on the economics of Somali pirates and the decisions of ship owners to pay ransoms. As in so much of life insurance companies call the shots.
I was disappointed with the final third which was poor by the authors standards including a ludicrous coincidence and the action was not dramatic.
The narrator was limited. If the bulk of the action involves non US voices please employ someone versatile enough to convince or at least get within a thousand miles of the voice.

Too invincible

An okay book to have on while driving. Suspect the author has a red baseball cap with a certain logo on it. Build up and background on Somalia and piracy was good, totally invisible God like status of the US and Seals got a bit much.

If you like a nice bit of cheese

Patrick has always gone almost homoerotic when describing his seal characters, in the same way he always goes simpering schoolboy slave like when describing his conservative American women characters.

But in the past I have overlooked his faults in the cause of a good plot and a decent tale and I have either listened or read them all.

However this latest shabby offering is so cheesy all that is required to make it complete is a glass of port and some biscuits. The books failings are made even worse by the “American blockbuster” style delivery by the narrator.

Towards the end of the story it was so appalling I just got angry It gives a wholly inaccurate portrayal of the manner in which what we are supposed to believe are professional special forces people senior admirals and a retired admiral conduct themselves, the language they are likely to use and the manner in which they use it! Is a complete joke.

This is quite simply the single worst audio book I have ever listened to and the last Patrick Robinson I shall waste any of my money or credits upon.

very poor

I have read Patrick Robinson books from the start and enjoyed them all ,but I think he must had an off-day when he wrote this . I have listened to nearly half of this and just got so fed up with it I would welcome being boarding with pirates. I have consigned this to the big mistake bin .
