Summary

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience.

"You're pregnant."

"It's a boy."

"Your son needs a heart transplant."

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Lies. Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun. Two words - that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky.

"He's gone."

For 10 years, the darkness consumed me. In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise.

"Hi. I'm Porter Reese."

DEEP.. EMOTIONAL.. GRIPPING AND FULL OF FEELS

I am slowly working my way through most of the books written by Aly Martinez because she really knows how to write a unique storyline packed full of feels.. and wow, this Duet delivered so many highs and lows and you really FEEL every single one alongside her well crafted characters. I saw every touching scene as the layered plot slowly unfurled its secrets in books 1 and 2. I hoped, with every tender tentative step forward, that these two damaged people could emotionally move into the light together from their dark heartbreaking pasts. I was thrilled then devastated and heartbroken as their rollercoaster ride twisted and turned. I felt every pitfall as the past and the present painfully collided and I was captivated as every emotional scene revealed its devastating touching truths. And finally, after all the tragedies and triumphs, I eagerly soaked up the perfect HEA ending.

Worth a credit? Yes definitely. Aly Martinez is a skilled author who takes you on a dual POV journey that has so much passion, tangible pain, heartache and love love love. Great narration brought it all to life and made it an enjoyable 5 star audiobook.

I cried like a baby

I cried deeply and nearly turned the audio off within the first three minutes. You see my son had died from a heart attack caused by an acute asthma attack. He had been diagnosed as a baby and unfortunately, he died at the age of 11. I continued to Continue to listen cautiously. But in the end the story was so well written and the characters and storylines are so familiar that I completely surrendered and prayed both families would finally have peace in the closure. I obviously loved the story for obvious reasons but mostly because Aly Martinez is a phenomenal writer.

Incomplete

Good book, but predictable. Did not know it wasn’t a complete book, or I wouldn’t have bought it.

CLIFFHANGER CLIFFHANGER CLIFFHANGER CLIFFHANGER

New-to-me author. The writing is overwrought, but I was enjoying it well enough until it just...ended.

WASN'T A FAN OF CLIFFHANGER, 2ND BOOK PURCHASE

I think when author's do this cliffhanger shtick, it's to line their pockets...along with the publishers. The two books in this series could have easily been one. I become irritated with authors who put dollars before readers... I wasn't too much of a fan of the heroine; she lacked a backbone. And I wasn't a fan of Tom because his character and personality were always changing. There's so much material between the two books that needs to be chopped; it's not needed in order to tell or carry the story. And I thought the ending was a bit over the top and excessive. I probably stayed with this book because of Travis. Some have stated they cried when listening, but this book didn't pull at my heart as much as it irritated me in parts. I'm on the fence with this one. But I do appreciate that at least the author included a storyline.
