Summary

Book 3 of The End Times

The End Times have come to Ulthuan. The battle that began millennia ago will finally end, as the druchii march upon the soil of their ancestral home once again and Malekith claims his destiny.

Listen to it because...

It's Gav Thorpe writing about elves, finishing the story he began in The Sundering trilogy. Storylines decades in the making reach their conclusion in an epic that changes the fate of the elves forever.

The story:

The End Times are coming. With Naggaroth besieged by the hordes of Chaos, the Witch King Malekith makes the decision to abandon the Land of Chill and make one final attempt to seize the throne of Ulthuan. As the druchii march upon the soil of their ancestral home once again, long-laid plans come to fruition and treachery blooms, bringing Malekith closer than ever to his goal. All that stands in the Witch King's way is the Regent of Ulthuan, Prince Tyrion, and the darkness within Malekith's own soul, the call of the Curse of Khaine.

The narrator makes an excellent dark elf!

Really amazing voice acting here with strong narration. Pros: Sexy dark elf voices, Malekith slapping about his minions, tense dark scenes. Cons: Terribly mashed together confusing end times story that makes absolutely no sense and characters having a personality transplant to suit stupid end times nonsense.

wanted it to be my favourite but unfortunately not

This book is an utter mess. Throughout the stiry it snaps without warning into flashbacks with little or no context. Malaketh makes a good villian against the elves but a poor protagonist. Charecter points are interesting such as Imrick but Tecklest is a poor charecter and other charecters are simply forgotten about. The story skips over important events in montage and little information about them. overall not the best

Hard to follow, just wanted it to end.

Listened to it because I want to hear the end times series, but the there's no way to know when we're hearing a flash back or "current" events. Finished it because I hate not finishing things.

The narrator is okay but the story is fun

I liked this book it had a lot of flashbacks to Malekiths past which was really interesting and will be really useful for people who don’t know the lore to get context about situations and events, while also getting Malekiths thought process, I would have liked a bit more insight into the thought processes Tyrion, Morathi, Teclis and Imrik though. Because we get all the context we need for Malekith but mostly only hear about the others. The Narrator was okay he could do 2-3 different male voices well the rest sounded like cheap copies he really needs to expand his range especially when it comes to female characters. But the basic narration was great.

Overly verbose

A hard listen mainly due to the writers need to overly describe each scene in great detail rather than let the reader conjure up imagined scenes. Finished it only because I started it.

Disappointing

The elves are presented as petulant children by an author (who I usually like) that seems to have fallen in love with his thesaurus. Using 20 words when 5 would do, gets old quickly. Maybe the editor took the month off.

Annoying and poorly stuctured.

My least favourite of the end times books so far. The near constant flashbacks that happen over and over really derail the plot, then the large time skip under the reason of "too many stories to be told"
