About this listen
Devoted father or merciless killer?
His secrets are buried with him.
Florence Lovelady's career was made when she convicted coffin-maker Larry Glassbrook of a series of child murders 30 years ago. Like something from our worst nightmares the victims were buried...alive.
Larry confessed to the crimes; it was an open and shut case. But now he's dead, and events from the past start to repeat themselves. Did she get it wrong all those years ago? Or is there something much darker at play?

Brilliant. I'll definitely listen again to get the full detail and go onto some of her other books

Most unexpected
The Craftsman took some turns that I really wasn't expecting. I was very interested in how a female police detective was treated in pre-politically correct times and although we have far to go, I was cringing at the blatant and overt sexism. The story was clever and well thought out. I wasn't sure about the whole spiritual element to the tale and for me, personally, didn't feel it added anything to what was an intriguing and compelling story without it. Nevertheless, a 4 star listen from me.

Excellent introduction to Sharon Bolton’s books
I am new to this author’s work.
Some readers have indicated that they dislike the supernatural aspect of the book, as if it were an optional extra, when in fact it is at the fundamental core of the story. If you don’t care for this subject matter, look elsewhere.
As for the narrator: Yes, at normal speed the narration sounds flat and dull, BUT for me this was fixed by slightly increasing the playback speed to 1.10.
Some of the reviews seem harsh in my (obviously subjective) opinion. Personally, I loved it.

Love this book
I have lessoned to this book twice now and and still love it.
It’s so good and you can picture the story in your mind ( well I can ) I feel like am watching from a distance what’s going on in the town.
Sharon has a great writing technique that seems too draw you into the book and you feel like your part of it.
I know at the end of the year I will be leasing again to this book.
It’s nice to hear such a strong leading lady.

great story
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, so much so I have just downloaded all of the authors other books, the only critisicm I would have it the narrators accents for some characters, at times a little laughable, however, it didn't spoil the book. Definitely worth a listen.

Brilliant Book
And brilliantly narrated. You must read this book before reading the sequel otherwise book 2 is hard to understand but probably better than book 1

Best of the best
I've read all of Sharon Bolton's work and eagerly pre order them. This is the best by far and I hope the 30 year gap in this story will allow her to write some more cases starring WPC Lovelady. Excellent exciting story from start to finish and kept me guessing throughout.
The narration of the main character was oddly stilted like someone reading not acting however in this story it gives the feeling of the policewoman testifying from written notes and is less obvious with the other characters.
Really can't go wrong with this whether you've read any of her previous work or not.

Unexpected!
Excellent narration and very enjoyable listen. I did contemplate giving up when it seemed the only woman in the squad of men appeared to be the only one with a brain and seemed to establish the now, good practice, procedures which hadn’t occurred to all the experienced men! I’m glad I didn’t let that irritate me.
