Summary

A golden summer, and six talented teenagers are looking forward to the brightest of futures—until a daredevil game goes horribly wrong, leaving three strangers dead.

18-year-old Megan takes the blame for the crime, leaving her friends to get on with their lives. In return, they each agree to a 'favour', payable on her release from prison.

Twenty years later Megan is free.

It is payback time.

And her friends start disappearing, one by one . . .

Richard & Judy bestseller Sharon Bolton is back, with her twistiest thriller yet.

Original story line

Slow beginning. Fabulous middle which kept me guessing and hooked. The protagonist is likeable and I really rooted for her.
The ending seemed quick and a bit disappointing but it didn’t spoil the book too much.

Gripping.

Brilliantly written and narrated. The memory of being a teen brought back to life, with the suspense of a thriller. I couldn't stop listening.

Slow burn, great middle, ok end

The beginning felt abit like it would be the whole story but I did enjoy the hearing the whole backstory of the gang. Got really good and juicy, seemed like it was build to something huge but the end felt kinda rushed. Love the narration, found her voice soothing but nit dull. Would definitely listen to more from the same author, worth a listen!

Gripping from start to finish

I started this book, then left it for a month or two after the first couple of chapters, weary at the thought of trying to empathise with privileged teens. I’m glad I went back to it though - it turned out to be great story all the way until the last hour. I like books where the evil baddie helpfully explains themselves before getting their comeuppance. No such luck this time - I still have no idea why the book ended as it did and it badly needs an epilogue. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it in the main.

I wasn’t a fan of the narrator, which was half the reason I stopped listening when I first tried the book. She narrates with the whingey, entitled tones of privilege, which is very irritating, and she mispronounces many words incorrectly. Had there been better supervision when recording, these jarring errors could have been picked up.

Gripping Yarn

Great thriller but badly let down by the reading. First the sonambulant tone which ran so counter to the exciting narrative. Then the mispronunciation of simple words like ‘Formica’ and unforgivable errors such as mispronouncing ’Magdalen’ college. At times sentences were mangled through an inability to observe punctuation or read for sense. Such a shame.

Not Bad at all

Strong start, good middle, ending could have been better, but overall not bad. Kept me gripped until the last quarter when it started to get a bit predictable. Still, it was good enough it didn't let my mind wander too far.

Enjoyable audiobook. Good few twists and turns.

Found the narrators voice quite grating if I'm honest which made it hard to listen to although it did suit the over privilaged schoolgirl theme.
