Story
Despite her fascination with Jack the Ripper, Detective Constable Lacey Flint has never worked a big case or seen a dead body up close. Until now…As she leaves a south London estate one night, she is horrified to find a woman has been viciously stabbed, right next to Lacey’s car. Thrown headlong into her first murder hunt, Lacey’s quiet life changes overnight. Then Lacey receives a familiar hand-delivered letter, written in red blood, and it is clear the police have a Ripper copycat on their hands.

Fascinating idea for a story-a little let-down by narrator
I gave this 4* overall as it did keep me listening right to the end and Sharon Bolton’s plot is full of twists and interesting reveals throughout. The premise is a great one- six, bright young things in Oxford caught up in a terrible deed that leads to a lifetime of regret, revenge and vengeance.
At times, I found Hanako Footman’s narration over-bearing and she mis-pronounces some key words-‘Magdalen’, the Oxford college, should be ‘Maudlin’…pedantic, I know, but it bugged me.

Slow beginning. Fabulous middle which kept me guessing and hooked. The protagonist is likeable and I really rooted for her.
The ending seemed quick and a bit disappointing but it didn’t spoil the book too much.

Beautifully narrated without that annoying trend to imitate a male voice or attempt a regional accent.

A 10-Star Read!
This 10-star book is sinister, unsettling, smart, and riveting -- all at the same time.
The "group of friends with a secret about an incident that happened during adolescence" is not a new premise.
Leave it to talented author Sharon Bolton to take an overplayed and "blah" premise and create an incredibly tense psychological thriller that is tightly woven, intricately plotted, and unputdownable.
All of the protagonists in this book are unlikeable, deeply flawed, and vividly portrayed. The book features multiple twists and turns with more red herrings than a fish store.
The narration was superb.
"The Pact" is a book you won’t want to miss. It's my second Sharon Bolton book and I look forward to listening to more titles by this talented author.
