Summary
You can run. You can hide. But you can't escape…
Jonathan Hale is terrified. The wealthy property lawyer and money launderer is back home in Surrey after a nightmare experience in a U.S. jail. The police have him under secret surveillance.
But Hales's fears lie elsewhere. His plea bargain has earned him the enmity of The Reptile, a notoriously cold-hearted gangster, now confined for life in a maximum-security jail in Arizona thanks to Hale. He's taken precautions, moved house, hidden his identity and installed security for his wife and family. But still… what if The Reptile escapes?
For DCI Gillard it should be just another week at work. But before long he is involved in a desperate manhunt that will test him to his very limits.
Be prepared.
Strap yourself in for an intense and unforgettable crime thriller that won't let go, perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter, Cara Hunter and Mark Billingham.

Brilliantly gripping
I stumbled across DCI Craig Gillard a few months ago and was hooked. Each book is difficult to put down. I listen whilst dropping off to sleep and find myself wanting to go to bed early so I can continue the story. I’ve managed to connect to my car so I can listen on journeys, I really can’t wait to get stuck in to every book and I love a character I can get to know and journey through adventures with.
In this book DCI Craig Gillard balances his usual heroism and quick mind with his personal human side. Nick Louth has a capacity to give details that are well researched and engaging. This book, as with the others, is brilliantly written.
An audiobook, no matter how well written, relies on great narration and Marston York does this author justice and brings the characters and story to life. I will search for books narrated by him no matter who has written them. Some narrators are naturally gifted and he is one of them.
I can’t wait for the next book. Isn’t it about time DCI Gillard is promoted and at least has a police bravery medal?
Fabulous, thank you!

Not Gillard's best tale
As always beautifully read but this story wasn't the most credible Gillard story Aspects of the tale are a bit fanciful

Not Very Good Sadly
I've enjoyed the previous books but this one comes with gaping plot holes. Teenagers using Facebook? The youngest female character's prodigious IT skills? The paranoid father not regularly checking for details of his family online by the simplest Google search?
Meticulous research in other areas but ludicrous lack of it in others.

Not enough Craig Gillard
The e story had great promise but it was a bit bare on the bones and it lacked the depth of the earlier books. Ok but not great

Back on form.
Having favoured this series of books., I really didn’t like the last one, I thought it was a ridiculous storyline and I nearly didn’t continue. I’m so glad I did as I was gripped to this story. He’s definitely back on form with this one, it’s one of his best!

Addictive listen
The best authors create stories that absorb and disrupt my plans for the day...I had to listen to the very end, the plot hooked me in, the narration excellent, Totally recommended on the proviso that once into the book you will only operate on neutral drive till the end.

Not one I could read over again
Not one of his best books by far you could take it or leave it.
