Be inspired by the daring, arduous journeys and death-defying feats of world-renowned adventurer Ross Edgley and build your own resilience to tackle challenges, both great and small.
Ross Edgley is famous for his astounding exploits—running a marathon while pulling a 1.4-tonne car, climbing a rope the height of Everest and becoming the first person in history to swim around Great Britain among them. In The Art of Resilience, he recounts his greatest adventures, drawing you into his world right from the first chapter. Narrating his words himself in this thrilling audiobook, Edgley also lets you in on how he built his mental grit and then drew on it to develop phenomenal physical stamina. In a no-nonsense yet engaging style, Edgley explains how anyone can master the ancient concepts of persistence and stoicism, applying them to everyday life. As the author shows, his approach to mental toughness can help you keep things in perspective, find inner strength and, ultimately, achieve things you never thought possible.
Feel your heart leap in your chest and a sense of quiet determination settle into your soul as you listen to Edgley talk about his daunting feats of endurance. You’ll especially be gripped by his gritty, evocative descriptions of his encounters with giant jellyfish, formidable storms, and more as he shares the story of what became known as the Great British Swim.

Summary
Best-selling author and award-winning adventurer Ross Edgley has been studying the art of resilience for years, applying all he has learned to become the first person in history to swim all the way round Great Britain, breaking multiple world records along the way. Now, Ross turns his attention to mental strength and Stoicism.
Ross Edgley famously ran a marathon pulling a 1.4-tonne car and climbed a rope the height of Everest (8,848 m), after living with Yamabushi warrior monks in Japan and partaking in Shamanic pain rituals with fire ants in the Amazon jungle. On his epic 1,780-mile journey around Great Britain, which lasted 157 days, Ross swam through giant jellyfish, arctic storms, ‘haunted’ whirlpools and polluted shipping lanes, going so hard, and so fast, his tongue fell apart.
Ross’ previous book, The World’s Fittest Book, was a Sunday Times number one best seller and explored the science of physical fitness. Now, in The Art of Resilience, Ross uses his swim experience and other amazing endurance feats, where he managed to overcome seemingly insurmountable pain, hardship and adversity, to study the performance of extreme athletes, military and fitness specialists and psychologists to uncover the secrets of mental fitness and explore the concept of resilience, persistence, valour and a disciplined mind-set in overcoming adversity. This groundbreaking work represents a paradigm shift in what we thought the human body and mind were capable of and will give you a blueprint to become a tougher, more resilient and ultimately better human - whatever the challenge you face.

A dull digital dairy - don’t do it
An audio assault, a grating, squeaky voice with a goodie two shoes narrative. Self-indulgent story telling at its worse.

Great Story, Inspiring Achievement, Fantastic Guy
At first, I thought the book was going to be a long, drawn out and repetitive story for the purposes of there being a book. HOWEVER, the mix between Ross's personal accounts and existing scientific studies was very thought provoking. The fact that he achieved what he did in the first place should automatically earn him 5 stars, however the kindness of his personality and character shows through his narration and I can't imagine the book would be half as personal if not narrated by the man himself.

Gets bogged down in workout jargon
Seems like a really good bloke and his achievements are truly amazing, but the middle of this audiobook just gets totally bogged down in creating the perfect workout routine.
I was interested to a point but then it just goes on and on and on about workouts, exercises and planning a gym routine that 99% of people have no desire to do (it’s almost as if he expects everyone to finish reading the book and start training to swim around Britain)
The stuff about stoicism is also so overly used these days, it’s become trite.
Read David Goggins if you want to tap into resilience

Exceptional effort not so much the book
Followed Ross on Instagram for ages so was eager to listen to his book, but just couldn't get into it. Some great bits in it but some irritating bits (areas were there was a constant stop and explanation) like when he would always need to do a measurement comparison (when you wish to show both miles or km) and just got ridiculous at some points.
Maybe having a professional read it might have helped and removed all the size conversion rubbish I feel it would've been better.

Funny and inspiring book
I like Ross he's the human version of a Golden Retrieve. I've seen him on youtube and found his bubbly personality funny so I gave his book a try and I was not disappointed.
I found this book inspiring because Ross is not motivated by some dark past like many other exceptional people. He is just a normal guy with a loving family that wants to push his limits.

Good story
Ross has a great story to tell, not to sure on how useful the 'lessons' on resilience are, but a good story about a bloke swimming around the UK.
