Summary

You'll be hooked by the first moment and shocked by the last....

The twisty new thriller from the number one best-selling author of Friend Request.

Eleven murders. Twenty-five years ago.

Are some truths better left buried?

On 15th June 1994, Travis Green—husband, father, upstanding citizen—walked through the streets of Hartstead and killed 11 of his neighbours. The final victim was four-year-old Cassie Colman's father.

As the 25-year anniversary approaches, Cassie would rather forget the past—even as her mother struggles to remember it at all. Then something hidden in her mother's possessions suggests those 11 murders were not what everyone believes.

Once Cassie suspects she's been lied to about the most important event of her life, she can't stop digging up the past.

But someone will do anything to keep it buried....

Slow burner, but so worth it!

She seems like such a moaner to begin with, but then the plot kicks in. The characters develop, and you’re hooked. Cried twice near the end!

A Slow burner 🔥

A good story with a few twists and turns but for me, the pace aas too slow. I listened to the end and didn't by any means hate the book but I'm more of a fast paced crime thriller reader so this is a little out of my comfort zone for me.

Great story and well read

I was hooked very quickly. The story is very compelling and the characters are easy to understand and relate to, especially if you’ve ever been a mum. It is gripping and quite addicted. Recommended for sure.

Slow Burning Crime

This books primary character is the grown up daughter whose dad was murdered in a mass shooting 25yrs previously. We get a birds eye view of her struggles as a single mum living with her own mum who has alzheimer's disease. The second supporting character is a reporter who is in town doing a piece on the 25 yr anniversary of the shooting and basically digging around for information not known at the time. No one knows why the shooter killed the people he did including the main characters dad and this book ends up exploring the going on 25yrs ago, tracing the killers movements and the motive. Then there is the current day fall out of these discovers and not everyone is so happy about them coming to light!

There is a nice mix of investigating the killer while observing the realities of dealing with every day life and the difficulties faced with motherhood and responsibilities to our families. At the end I thought the whole motive thing was a bit weak but the characters were well written so I didn't really mind.

Thoughtful exploration of a trauma

I thought this was a good account as well as being a intriguing plot of a mass shooting in a fictional town. It’s well read and I found myself keen to listen on!

Very gripping

This was my third book by Laura Marshall and I think the best one (however the previous ones were also really really good!) This psychological mystery thriller was so gripping that I I could not put it down. And I love the author’s writing style. I’m looking forward to Laura Marshall’s another book. She is definitely my one of the best authors.
If you like psychological thrillers this book/audiobook (I had both) is for you.

Couldn’t stop listening!

I loved this book, so many twists I didn’t see coming. The audible recording kept me going through a bout of winter lurgy in bed. The narrator is excellent, really brought the characters to life.. totally fabulous all round

Kept me listening

Well narrated and despite wallowing in the demands of new motherhood and the agonising despair of caring for a beloved mother sinking deeper into dementia, I found the first half of this novel kept me engaged. However, despite such a good start, it just seemed to drag on and on and I would have given up had I not wanted to know how it all ended. Seemed to take a very long time but I made it to the finish line with a sigh of relief - and that isn't how I want to feel after almost 11 hours of listening.
