Summary
My son said he walked his girlfriend home. But now she is missing....
Our new home was meant to be a chance for us to start again; to make new friends and forget the past. And as I look around the barbeque we’ve thrown for our neighbors, I dare to dream that things will be all right. I watch my husband joking as he flips burgers and my daughter turning cartwheels on our sun-bleached lawn. And then my gaze falls on my son, Jacob, and his new girlfriend, Rose, in her light blue jeans and her green crop top. There is a worried expression clouding her beautiful eyes....
The next day I get a call from Rose’s mother that chills me to the bone. Rose never returned after our party.
I wake my still-sleeping son, who walked Rose home the night before, and beg him for answers. Jacob promises he saw Rose to her front door, and I know he would never lie.
But when the police find Rose’s house keys hidden in our garden and a witness claims to have seen them arguing in the street, everyone insists I can’t believe what Jacob is telling me.
I will do anything to protect my boy. But I need to find a way to make the questions stop. Because there’s something about our family that nobody can ever know. And as the search for Rose closes in, how can I keep him safe and keep our secrets hidden?
A gripping and jaw-dropping thriller with twists to die for. If you love Lisa Jewell, K.L. Slater, and Jackie Kabler, you’ll love The Lie.

Predictable
I found it very predictable - a little drawn out, it could have been pacier at times

Good listen
Didn’t get into it until a third way through. A bit confusing at times. A lot of characters who had their arms folded I find! Some things that happen early on aren’t explained further in story but All in all good story and glad I listened to the end.

I really tried
When I say I listened to chapter 1-3 around 20 times, I’m not joking! Okay so I started this audiobook at bedtime so eventually I kept falling asleep so had to re listen. It didn’t matter how many times I kept going over the chapters. I couldn’t take anything in. I couldn’t get interested in the characters, I kept losing the plot with the families. I just found it boring. Nothing about it was grabbing me at all. Even listening through the day and away on long walks, It still didn’t grab me. Overall I’m really disappointed in this book and wouldn’t recommend.

Insomnia
Waffled on in parts and l kept falling asleep, so a good cure for insomnia, l guess!
Worked out who did it earlier on in book, so not really a “whodunit” for me! Have listened to much better!

Not really a twist, more of a soft meander
I liked it, it's a solid example of the genre but the twist is almost glaringly obvious from really early on. I was waiting for a double bluff but it just played out exactly as expected.
Details were good though!

Better than some reviews have you believe
Firstly, the narration was very good, especially navigating through different characters of differing ages.
At first, I wished the plot would speed up somewhat, but, once tumbling toward the conclusion the pace felt just right. As with all books of this ilk, you pick your villain and wait to be proved right or wrong.
This book had me reinvestigating my suspect due to revelations surfacing in the final chapters.
This would lend itself to a four part television drama quite nicely.
Shall try another book from the author and definitely another listen from the narrator x

not worth the credit
I really struggled with this book. The story just didn't capture me at all. It was slow and flip-flopped between characters so much, all with the exact same voice. I guessed from about the 3rd chapter what had happened but listened on to confirm it. Even at the very end, i couldn't have cared less who did it and why. I'm unhappy about spending a credit on it to be honest.

great read
you know it’s not him but then it has to be him, but then you think it’s not him because that would be a boring story line.. as always she writes a great book that keeps you so interested. Great read.

Not her best
I love the author. But she has been writing more books, more frequently and perhaps the quality is suffering as a result. You knew what had happened half way through the book, so the ending wasn't a surprise. The ending also felt abrupt and lacking any real feeling of satisfaction. I was waiting for the twist or the final piece to make me understand why I listened to the last half of it and it never really got there for me.

Huge Disappointment
We all have a choice in what we read/listen to. Had I known I was going to listen to a story about a pedophile who then **Spoiler Alert** has sex with the child’s mother after the child’s death, this would definitely have been an easy pass for me. Besides that it felt so predictable it seemed like I had read something similar without the statuary abuse. All in poor taste.

The most predictable book ever
I love this author. I have read all of her books. This book is so predictable. Knew since the beginning what was happening. Didn’t like it at all.
