Summary

After losing her husband, writer Abigail Carson has all but given up on life. Having spent the last year cocooned in her Manhattan apartment, Abigail is suddenly forced to find a new home where she can stretch her dwindling savings. Intent on isolation, she moves to a tiny village in Nova Scotia where she'll have no one to interrupt her solitude.

Little does Abigail realize that small-town life offers far less privacy than the big city. With neighbors knocking on the door bearing homemade treats and invitations, Abby soon finds herself immersed in the lives of the people of South Haven. She forms an unlikely friendship with Liam Wright, the handyman renovating her dilapidated cottage, and his daughter, seven-year-old Olive.

As the dark cloud engulfing Abigail lifts, she starts to think she may have found love again. But just as Abigail is ready to leap, she discovers Liam carries with him a shocking secret that will ultimately cause everything to unravel. Abigail must decide if she will turn away from his pain or open her heart in the most hopeless of circumstances.

Contains mature themes.

JUST WOW! 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I RARELY give 5 Stars!

I have listened to 6 other Melanie Summers Books and they have been funny and lighthearted but this one is in a league of its own.

It had all of the human emotions, I was worried It would be depressing but it wasn't.
Melanie has outdone herself writing such raw realism with humour. The main character ABI doesn't even realise that she was soul searching as it masked itself as a stage of grief.

I loved that every chapter starts with a great timeless quite ~ which is very me😀

I never seen the twist coming in the last few chapters. The narrator Tavia Gilbert did great at her job, narrating all the different characters very well. As the book is left, it is open to a sequel which I hope Melanie writes.

I definitely recommend this listen because every so often you hear a book that you won't forget, for example 'The Gift' and 'The Flatshare' etc, this book is the same ~ it will stay with me!

+ Tavia Gilbert has done a terrific well narration. Her angry voice, child voice perfect
+ Melanie Summer thank you for this beautiful story, maybe a part 2 with some of the side characters?
+ No smut which is fine with me
+ A adorable cat, daughter and townfolks
+ Every chapter start with a interesting quote
+ No tropes any at all feels so natural

After wife

I have read 3 of Melanie Summer's books before and expected this one to be as entertaining and lighter weight as the others. But this was in another, and very memorable, league. Heartbreaking at times, humorous at others, and written with total realism and understanding of the human condition. I will remember this reading for a long time to come and unhesitatingly award it five stars.

OMG Loved it! ❤️

I can't recommend this enough! It's such a great listen, I loved every moment and never wanted it to end . The ending is so unexpected and so bitter sweet 🥺 If there's ever a sequel I'm not sure if I could bear to chance it!!! Beautiful, funny, sad and highly recommended. Also great narrator.

a classic story with an incredible performance

I took this on as a bit of variety.. I listen to books at work and must say that the performance of this story stopped me in my tracks on a number of occasions. A deep, sad but joyful tale of rediscovery.. there aren't really any huge surprises from my perspective but at times, that's exactly what you want. A story with a familiar and reassuring flavour, hope that in the end everything will be OK. A happy read

Best narration ever.

Really lovely bitter sweet story. Fantastic characters and the absolute best narrator ever. She reduced me to tears just by the intonation of the narrative.
