Summary

What if your future was somewhere in your past?

Rosie Jones has been dumped by every boyfriend she’s ever had - most recently by Dinosaur Dave, live on TV, during the ‘phone-a-friend’ segment of a quiz show.

After the footage goes viral Rosie receives a bunch of flowers with a message:

I love you, I should have never let you go, I want you back x

But who sent them?

At a loose end and with £50,000 prize money in her back pocket, Rosie decides to take a trip down memory lane, visiting each of her ex-boyfriends to see not just if they are the one who sent the flowers but if they are the one.

Her journey takes her back to the house she grew up in and on a transatlantic cruise to New York, but can Rosie figure out which ex-boyfriend is the love of her life, or should the past stay in the past?

So slow to get going

Great idea to start the book, and the excruciating sinking feeling after the initial dumping on TV scene plays out. But so frustrating and took such a long time to get into... I kept wondering where the romance was and didn’t buy into it when it did happen. Also found the relationship with Eli hard to buy into (best friends in a matter of days?)

What a shame, I’ve really liked the other books by this author.

Another easy Portia MacIntosh story!

I really love Portia MacIntosh stories - easy, fun and well worth a listen - they may not be plausible but that doesn't matter!
And Karen Cass is a great narrator!

Not her best

I’m a fan of this author, have loved all her other novels but this is thin, unengaging and not really worth a credit. Her weakest by a long way. It seems poorly constructed compared to her others, Random scenes on a ship that don’t seem to have a purpose as part of the plot, and the relationship we are meant to want for the protagonist just falls flat, the character of the man is just too thinly drawn, the link between them isn’t strong enough to urge the reader to want to see them get together. This novel is entirely put-downable. Good job I didn’t pick this up before any of the others or I’d not have have bothered with the rest, and I did enjoy the others.

Lovely book, took my mind away from reality

Great, energetic, refreshing book. Made me smile and giggle many times whilst reading. Definitely recommend. Especially if you’re looking for a book to take you away from reality.
Thank you, more please 😉

I really like Portias books that i’ve read/ listened to so far, but this one just didn’t do it for me. The main character I just couldn’t connect with.

I love PORTIA Macintosh & KAREN CASS books

I love listening to Portia Macintosh books as they are always brilliant.
This book was very good with a lovely story but not excellent like all her other books & that is why I have give It only 3 Stars.

It hasn't put me off her books though and I will still listen to new releases.

Karen Cass did a 5 Star 🌟 job at narrating like she always does.

This book is definitely worth a listen but wait for it to go on offer!

Portia and Karen - great combo

If I was forced to say something negative it would be that this story is just a smidge less engaging than her others - but I still loved it. The plus one pact and faking it have my heart most though!

Not my fave

I’ve read a few Portia MacIntosh books and always love the hilarious and light hearted fun. This one felt laborious to get through, though. The balance was off- too many gaffs and trials, and not enough setup on the rekindled romance. It felt like a rushed tie up at the end as a result? Still a fan of the author, but I’d opt for any of her other titles first. Karen Cass still did a fabulous job with the narration, though!

Pretty cute

This book makes keeling for a best friend, especially one I could travel with and who would indulge my whims and soothe my embarrassments. Of course, having the £50K would be super too! Haha! The main character’s cynicism and criticism of others gets a little much, I have to admit.

funny and likeable characters

I like when stories are a little bit unexpected. This one fits the bill. It was cute and sweet and you could pick it up whenever and catch on again. Definitely not a page turner or one you can't put down, but a nice beach read, if you will.

Not my fav at all- READ the others. Cass is Still amazing.

I have listen to Portias books because I love the narrator. Karen is the best!

However, i did not like the main character. Very very bratty. Like get over yourself bratty. Like she has NOTHING to offer anyone around her.

If i hadn’t read/listed to the last 4 audiobooks. I’d wouldn’t know how amazing Portias stories are. I would not let this be an intro to Ms.Macintosh much much much better stories.

Disappointing

Have read & enjoyed several of Portias books but this one was disappointing .
The story and h were so ridiculous, invoking exasperation & eye rolling instead of charm & chuckles.
Narration by Karen was excellent as always.
