Summary

Meet Patrick Cooper - desperately down on his luck and head-over-heels in unrequited love with his best friend, Bridget.

Meet Bridget's sister, Emma Donovan - eternally single maker-of-cakes for many a happy couple, whilst never making it down the aisle herself.

Emma has four younger sisters, all of whom are married or getting married, and an Italian mother who can’t understand what is ‘wrong’ with her eldest daughter, who seems to be stranded on the shelf. Despairing of her own ability to find a suitable husband, Emma agrees to be part of a compatibility project to get married at first sight.

Meanwhile Cooper is struggling to get over his crush on Bridget and seems destined to stay firmly on the shelf too. Perhaps it’s time his fate was taken out of his hands....

Is happily-ever-after just about daring to take a chance, or do you need some extra magic to make love last?

Join Beth Moran, Cooper and the Donovan sisters on this life-affirming and uplifting tale of love, family, friendship and risking it all for happiness.

Good story about M.E 3 Stars⭐⭐⭐

This is the first novel I have listened too that features a love story with a family member that suffers from 'Chronic Fatigue Syndrome' aka M.E . It is important for fiction to cover these illnesses. I thought it was very realistic. The love story however was not very convincing.

Who marries their crushes sister? That is all kinds of wrong especially when he knew he was still in love with his bride's sister!!!

I had this book on my wishlist and I was happy that it became "Included" because I wouldn't want to have wasted a credit on it. I've listened to a few Beth Moran books and they have been really great but I felt this book lacked something.

What I did like was the big family element.
This is the first time that I have listened to narrator Rosalind Steele and she is absolutely fantastic at doing different accents and voices, I would definitely listen to her narrate another book .

I still give 3 Stars ⭐⭐⭐ to this book

Awful narration.....and the accents made me cringe

The story was OK for the genre but the accents were so bad, especially the Jamaican ones and the Italian one.
I managed to get to the end of the book as I liked the story but the narrator should not read books with accents. it was offensive.

best book yet

loved the story loved the characters and especially loved the coverage of M E.such a poorly understood disorder.but not by this author.a senstive anr realastic portrayal of how this invisible disease affects not just the patient, but the whole family .And seamlessly weaved into the story.thanks so much ,this should raise recognition of this disorder and its tenacious effects on peoples carers and their and their families livex

Pleased I didn't use a credit.

See where this was meant to be going, independence and sister/family bond stuff. But really disliked a few key characters and they didn't have the redeeming features needed to make me by into this. Found the narration difficult as well was a big too much with some of the accents. I felt the focus of the story wavered a bit as well and I didn't enjoy the pacing. Pushed on through it but left me feeling meh at the end. Pleased I didn't use a credit on this one.

Most enjoyable

I am originally from this area so hearing snips featuring towns I know was an added bonus. This was my first Beth Moran book so will check out others.

Fab-u-lous!!! Each sister needs her own book! ❤️

As a story celebrating sisterhood Beth Moran nails this one, so much so I want to be a Donovan sister & have Wednesday wine! A story based on the ups and downs of family life, enough to bring you to tears and to make you laugh out loud.

As a ME sufferer I want to thank Beth for including this condition into her story, describing not just the effects on the sufferer but the family & beyond. The feelings raised in the characters are so so true, especially Mama's anger & determination. Will be recommending within the ME community.

Beautiful

Gorgeous story with good, believable family dynamics and an accurate representation of the chronic illness, ME. It didn't end how I expected which made it all the more satisfying and lovely.

Alright but ending was bit naff!

As a ME sufferer it was nice to see it being wrote about in a book. I have to agree with previous reviews about the naff ending felt bit of a let down after such a good book! If it wasn't for the ending I'd given it five stars.

Gave up halfway through

I'm I don't know if the book redeems itself.in the second half but save yourself a credit. I chose the book because of the mentions to chronic fatigue and was curious to see how that worked in a romcom. It doesn't.

Oldest sister is an unmarried vegan.

Some bloke has been desperately in love with vegan's little sister his whole life in a way worthy of a Bronte sister hero.

Little sister arranges a marriage between vegan and some bloke in an utterly implausable way.

The entire dialogue is 'am I mad', 'are you mad?', 'I can't believe this' 'I'm vegan'.

oh, yes, after every mention of the father, in a way that adds nothing to a very disjointed plot, the girl's father has CFS.

Mediocre and cringey

I downloaded this because it was free, and like other reviewers, I’m glad I didn’t waste a credit. I spent the whole book thinking ‘Marian Keyes does it so much better’. I got definite wannabe Walsh family vibes - but this author could never. Sorry.
Not sorry about my opinion on the ‘accents’ though. Like nails down a blackboard. Just awful. PLEASE don’t attempt if you are a white, middle class southerner! Thanks.
