About this listen

Phoenix - I never intended to become a stripper.

Two years ago, I was in Nashville chasing the songwriter dream. Sleepless nights between day jobs were spent writing rock ballads and trying to make a name for myself.

That all changed with one phone call that forced me to return to Atlanta. Needing consistent income to pay the mountain of debt I'd come home to, I traded stripping my soul for stripping my clothes.

Then Archer West comes crashing into my VIP room, tempting me to break all of my rules.

I want him - bad.

What I don't count on is finding him living right next door for the summer. Inexperienced and with a creative drive that rivals my own, he stirs the lyrics in me once again. Now I crave more than his body. Archer West has quickly become my unexpected muse.

Contains mature themes.

Firstly so much credit to Iggy Toma, he is a brilliant narrator, and his pace and tone just add to this great book.

Loved the storyline - skilfully you learn the back history of the two characters through the story, and build a perfect image of them

This is my first listen of a Babylon Crow book, certainly won’t be my last - the verse, almost poetry like at times is so well penned

Never wanted it to end

I feel like they went from just meeting in the club to saying those 3 words in the space of a few days 😄 I know a bit more happened in between but it was all very sudden to me personally.

They’re very cute together though and I love their banter and flirty interactions throughout, plus the side characters are fun apart from a certain A-hole

It was ok. Cute love story but very fast paced

I liked the characters, in a well written story.
Spacey enough to be interesting without going to far.

Really good story

First off, I love Iggy’s voice I could listen to him talk for hours. The story was cute, Phoenix and Archer were great characters.
Spice rating 2/5.

Loved it

The story follows a lovely romantic path of one sweet virgin and one experienced rebel, that has lost his way. Both characters are well written with a full Background story. I found both the love between the boys brilliantly discribed and the added poetry/lyrics are an added bonus.

Iggy as always captuers both these men with emotions and differing personalities, beautifully.

Baylin wow 👌 👏

I really enjoyed it... up until the 3rd act, which just devolved into melodramatics.

I liked Phoenix & Archer, they were adorable together. Uncle Isaac was a delight & had me in stitches everytime he was on the page. CJ & Caleb were ride or die & I loved that!

Now, maybe I'm far past adolescence & have no patience for melodramatics... Now, if you choose & accept to date a stripper, you've really got to accept what comes with the territory!

It kinda devolved into some melodramatic telenovela/soap opera storyline, which & I can't believe I'm saying this... but soaps do it better!

Usually, the innocent party is drugged & it's staged to look as bad as possible & had that been the case, I honestly would've understood the melodrama, as it was... it was more irritating than anything else.

Regardless of what job you do, you have to be professional at all times. Personal business is just that... personal!

Archer losing his mind over what was clearly Phoenix doing his job was ridiculous, his expectations for how Phoenix should've handled it even more so. He knew about the party, they're surrounded by clients, so nothing iffy is going on.

Had the scene followed the telenovela formula & Phoenix had been drugged & he walked in on what he thought was going on at the locker room... then, he'd definitely have a point, as it was it honestly just felt really childish to me.

TBH, Archer does seem very young with how he's written, his age is never specified, but I'm assuming he's in his early twenties, but honestly he felt a lot younger than that... almost like a teenager at times & the melodrama didn't really help that opinion...

but it's still an good book, worth a listen & I'm sure many people will understand why he got somewhat upset, when he himself said that he knew they'd been set up 🤷‍♀️

really good

A slow burner with some good scenes. Maybe a bit cliche. Love when he takes the lead.
A good book for beginners of mm romance.

Sweet story

The story is cute, I loved that Phoenix had his limits in work because that made his actions with Archer different and special. Archer was amazing too, so fun, nerdy and damn adorable. The sex scenes are great, very detailed and super hot.

The issue was the ending.... the author had THE perfect ending delivered in silver platter but because they wanted to add their reunion scene 2 seconds after they fought, and it all went to sht....
it would've felt less fake and more intense if Phoenix had written the song while thinking Archer was gone for ever than after their "ommggg i'm so happy for you, i believe in you!!" talk.

also the call..... what the h was that?! I know the author wanted to be all "funny and chaotic" with the call Phoenix got, but it sounded like Irresponsable, annoying, dumb teens that no one should ever work with. Also.... the way they acted and how they called him, shows you how little to no knowledge the author has of the business.

Cute love story
