Summary

The Vampire War is over. The United States is reeling. The Masquerade is fragmenting. The Apocalypse is here.

The long and bloody war with the vampires in the United States has finally ended, thanks to the efforts of the vampire Arbiter and ONSET Commander David White - and a nuclear explosion on American soil.

The final battle proves harder to conceal than hoped, however, and a series of high profile incidents end any chance of hiding the supernatural. Suddenly, the world is faced with the fact that it is both more wonderful and more terrible than humanity ever realized.

But as the US government struggles to adapt to this new reality, old enemies have set into motion plans that could render humanity’s struggles irrelevant. There are those beyond the Seal who were once gods...and they want their planet back!

The End is Come

The conclusion to this series is fast, frantic full-on warfare. At times I felt that the battle scenes were too long, whilst recognising that they probably weren't really long enough, nor detailed enough. The pictures painted with words were vivid and very real despite this being a fantasy world of Demons, Vampires and Supernaturals.
The end actually felt a bit rushed and I would have loved to see a bit of the aftermath, what happened to the thralls, Portland, even the president.
The Narration was excellent as is usual from Ray Porter
This was a very good series, somewhat outside my usual reading zone and I recommend it.
Overall 4 stars
Narration 5 stars
Story 4 stars.

Wanted more

This was an interesting series, but I feel like it was too rushed. A lot happens at once, and it's hard to keep track of it all as the series finishes. And this is the problem, I feel like the story could be expanded even more like how other agencies operate, we only got the Canadian version of Onset, which feels like a missed opportunity. I mean you can use something like the Russian version trying to solve their own case on US soil, or the Brits or French.

There is so much story here, that this being the last book really sings. There is still so much to tell, that I feel that the conclusion feels hollow. But that is by no means mean that this is a bad book. It's very good, but some more books would have been better to expand the world a little more.

A great listen

What a brilliant conclusion to such a wonderful series. I have fully enjoyed the journey that the Onset agents have taken over the series.

This book starts shortly after the events of the last book and shows the onset agents struggling to cope. With the usual cast, you are continuously waiting on the edge of your seats.
