A magical French island. A dead contestant. An aspiring baker must clear her name before she gets burned.

Imogen Banks has dreamed her entire life of opening her own bakery in Seattle. But when she accidentally sets fire to her apartment and loses all her possessions, her dreams get toasted. Still coping with her loss, she receives a cryptic invitation she can't possibly refuse: Entry into a mysterious baking competition on a beautiful French island.

When Imogen realizes the island village is magical and the bake-off’s participants are witches and wizards, she’s not sure her fledgling powers will be enough to win the coveted contest. Can Imogen unlock her own magic and stop the killer from coming back for seconds or will she jump straight from the frying pan and into the fire?

Enjoyed the stories but…

I really enjoyed reading the stories that Erin Johnson has written, as cozy mysteries go they are among the best.
It’s no doubt a personal preference but the high pitch and speed of the narrator’s voice is beyond irritating, so much so that at first I had to check my settings to make sure I hadn’t changed anything.
I’ll persevere as the books were great but I can only manage small bursts at a time of the audiobooks.

Lovely company!

I really enjoyed listening to the books in my car, while commuting. It really helped me feel a little better about driving to work every day, and I was looking forward to listening to each new adventure. There were definitely laugh out loud moments. The narrator made the characters distinguishable and gave them personalities.

The Great British Bake Off meets Harry Potter

Loved the first 3 books in the series, binged them in three days! As I loved it so much I have gotten the rest in the series. All 3 of the books in this set (18hrs for just one credit!) were an happy story with some suspense sprinkled in. The comedy within is similar to the original Sabrina the teenaged witch - which I still binge watch to this day, so it was right up my street!

I loved all the baking and Iggy is just an amazing character, I've caught myself chuckling to his remarks a few times!

All 3 books contain a murder mystery, but they don't feel forced and seem to weave their way into Imogen's life in a natural way.
I really adore each character and all seem quite well written, even the mermaids in the third book are a bit of a stereotype, but as its not how you'd imagine a mermaid to be, it was enjoyable and the mermaid characters stayed true and believable.

My only criticism is that book 2 had some slight editing issues when it came to the audio, nothing that stopped me enjoying the story or performance (the narrator is brilliant), but on the odd occasion a characters lines were repeated.
