Summary
Cole Riker is a Slip Runner.
A contractor tasked with finding alien salvage in exchange for credits. For an ex-smuggler like Cole, there’s a catch: Don’t break the terms of parole. That means doing things by the book.
Find salvage, turn it in, get paid.
But everything changes when a retrieval mission lands him in a previously unknown sector. There, he finds the material he’s been sent to recover, along with something more....
A brand-new form of ancient alien life.
Such a thing could change the entire Alliance, the Galaxy, and everything between, but most of all, it could change Cole's life for the better.
A shift in humanity’s future is at hand, and Cole is the one holding the key. He just has to survive long enough to use it.
USA Today best-selling author J.N. Chaney and M.F. Lerma bring you a brand-new series. If you're a fan of traditional heroes and old school sci-fi, this is the story for you.

Wonderful start to a new part of the world
It's a book series that doesn't assume you know everything about the previous books based in this world but without tonnes of exposition. Enjoyed it a lot and didn't feel left out that I hadn't read a fair bit of the earlier books. The narrator Neill Thorne did a fantastic job and allowed me to follow the book with his voices without effort. What can I say I've already purchased book 2 :)

Great Start on a new Renegade Universe Series
The book is set following the events of the Renegade Star series, but it doesn't rely on pre-existing knowledge and sets itself up fairly quickly. This is essentially a found family story in the vein of Farscape, and that includes alien crew. It has a unique tone, at times funny, at times somber, but always moving forward with a story that logically and organically builds on itself. That's an increasingly rare thing in the genre, where too often grand high-concept ideas are wrapped around contrivances, and for that I'm grateful and feel it deserves 5 stars. Looking forward to the continuing story of Cole and crew.

another great listen
As is the case for most JN Chaney series, this is a great ride from start to finish. Picking up a few years after the end of the Renegade Star series, Slip Runner follows a new protagonist and a new ship, this time on a salvage job. I have to say, I like that this series stands on its own without the need to read other books in the universe. It does a great job of explaining how this world works to new readers and who the key characters in it are, much like coming into the Star Wars universe through Rogue One instead of the original trilogy.
The narration is top notch. I don't know who Neill Thorne is, but he does a great job with the material. It's a smooth and easy listen and I could see him becoming a big name in the genre. Hopefully he continues to work with Chaney, because his voice suites these types of stories.
I hope this series continues for several books. I love the characters and it really does feel like a return to form for Chaney, since this is the universe he built. Lerma is a new addition to his cowriting crew, but they do a great job. I hope this partnership continues, since the writing is stellar and the story just gives me the warm fuzzies and reminds me of why I loved the Renegade Star series so much when I found it.

It scratches the itch.
I am very curious what we see moving forward, it's a sort of a cliche story with interesting more unusual ideas.

HolyPooSnacks!
I'm Addicted now! Cant ever get enough of the glorious combo of Molly and Neill! What a ride... fun, adventure, and cheeky snark abounds! My favorite things! (and all the easter eggs are a lovely delicious bonus!) Neill"s narration is superb, making so many characters my new favorite voices. I need more Min, stat! 💜

Another homerun from JN Chaney!
This was an AMAZING start for a series I can't wait to continue reading. I'm excited to hear what's next for these characters! Even better, there was just the right amount of snarky humor thrown in for good measure. If only Chaney could write faster, I would read only his books for forever!

A fantastic read
This book was highly entertaining! The writing style was great and I couldn't get enough of it. I played it at work to listen to something and the next thing I knew, the day was over and so was my book! I couldn't stop listening for even a moment, I had to know what happened next.
