Summary

It's Christmas, and half the Partickhill police squad is down with flu. Not good timing, with a series of cyanide poisonings in the area, plus two small boys reported missing in the space of a few days. And then there's the monumental task of providing concert security for rock legend Rogan O'Neill.

But for Detective Inspector Colin Anderson, the nightmare is about to get terrifyingly close to home. For a third boy has now gone missing - Colin's own son, Peter. The team race to find the boys before it is too late. But how long will it be before they realise the key is hidden in the lyrics of a rock song - 'Tambourine Girl' by Rogan O'Neill?

The brilliant narration and interesting story

I didn’t like the lazy troupe fat people could be evil… but some interesting characters and cops. Lots of great visualisations of Glasgow. Found some early parts very confusing - lots of descriptions of people without being clear that they are cops or not but worth sticking with and I enjoyed it.

Very enjoyable

I found this novel quite gripping and 'HAD' to keep listening - hadn't heard of this author before and chose because of reviews on Amazon. I loved the voice of the narrator.

The characters were well drawn and likeable enough for me to care what happened to them. A most enjoyable listen.

Enjoyable listen

Where does Singing to the Dead rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is an enjoyable cop story, set in Scotland and narrated very nicely by a Scot. There seems to be quite a lot of 'Scot Cop' fiction around at the moment and they are all very similar - in my opinion MacBride is still on top of the 'gruesome' crime stories (and Peter May with the beautiful Lewis trilogy), but saying that I did enjoy this story by Caro Ramsay and I've downloaded the second. Unlike MacBride's stories this one does lack the punch of having a really grim crime to investigate, but in a way it was quite nice to listen to something that didn't turn my stomach or have a huge amount of swearing in it!

A good read

This is a good series but best to start at the beginning if you can. Excellent characters, with some personal life stories as well as the crime story, which I find improves the book. Well read, too.

Great police procedural

I really enjoyed the second book in this series. The action takes place shortly after the events in the first book, Absolution, and references are made to events in that book, but it could be read as a standalone. The story centres around child abductions and there are lots of characters and quite a complex plot so I needed to concentrate to keep up! The characters of Anderson and Costello are further fleshed out in this book and I found them both interesting.

Great narration by James MacPherson.

Complex and gripping

This is a masterful story of a CID department, it's brilliantly drawn characters, and two compelling murder/kidnapping cases. I am really enjoying the pace of the narrative, the development of character and plot and the reading of James McPherson. This is a very, very good listen. I will definitely be seeking out further Caro Ramsay novels.
