Summary

From the moment I saw the shadows come to life, I knew my world would never be the same.

Yesterday I was a teenager waiting tables in Manhattan, and today, monsters exist and I can see them.

Overnight I’m thrown into the realm of the Watchers, a society of earthbound angels split into two factions: the Shades, whose powerful dark magic is given to them by the fallen angels, and the Lumens, whose abilities are bestowed on them by the archangels of Avalon.

They’re on opposite sides of a brutal war, and I only have a few days to pick which side I want to join.

I’m ready to choose when the Shades force my hand by cursing someone I love.

The only hope I have of saving them rests on the broad shoulders of the prickliest Shade alive, Gage Alston. He’s cold, arrogant, and quite possibly the most attractive guy I’ve ever laid eyes on.

Do I trust him? No.

Do I need him? Yes.

Do I want to kiss him? Maybe.

Perhaps I’ll choose darkness after all.

SHADOW ANGEL 😇

Okay this is a great start to a series, both authors are great at writing books, I love reading about angels and Demon 😈, and Vanessa Moyen is one of my all time favorite narrator's. I can't wait to get started on the next book.

Love this world

This book gave me Fallen Academy slash Mortal Instruments Vibes.

The world-building and plot flowed great.. its full of action.

Tatums world is turned upside down when she finds herself in the middle of Lumens and Shades. What side is she destined for.....

Vanessa did a great Job, her voice was perfect and pulls you in...

Looking forward to book 2, that cliffhanger?? I need to know.......

I knew this one would be fantastic!

Wow, it's been a while since I've found a young adult book that kept me up at night. I knew it was going to fantastic because ive read Life After and Angel Academy so putting the ideas of the two authors together was definitely going to be amazing and they didn't disappoint. I love the way they capture the typical teenage attitude and responses which brings Tatum to life on the page. She's a young girl trying to make ends meat and look after her sick gran when suddenly she is thrown into another world - one she thought never existed - of Angels and Demons and the fight to save humanity. I also loved the bad boy character of Gage, the English shade who isn't all bad after all. Can't wait to start book 2 as this one ends on a bit of a cliff hanger and I want to know if a certain someone is alive or dead and what will happen next?
I read this book before buying the audiobook and love the way Vanessa reads this story, her voice is very soothing and she has the ability to give each character a different tone to help keep up with who's speaking. I've heard her read Life After and loved her telling that story too, she always does a great job!

Shadow Angel: Book One

The is a fun entry into the shadow world, with demons, watchers and Angels. With fights and new friends along the way. Took awhile to get used to the strong American accent as a British listener, but Vanessa Moyen voice grows on you along with the story.

What an amazing start to this series!

My first audiobook in ages and I loved it! This is book one in the Shadow Angel series by Julie Hall and Leia Stone. What a great start to this series.

Tatum is struggling to make ends meet. She lives with her grandmother who needs a lot of help, but Tatum has a huge heart and would do anything to keep her safe, and out of a psychiatric ward, which seems possible giving all the episodes her gran has been having.

Lately she has been seeing some strange happenings herself, and before she knows it she is thrust into the supernatural world of angels and fallen angels. She finds out, that due to her bloodline, she is what is called a Watcher and upon her 18th birthday, she must choose between joining the Lumens who battle demons or the Shades who defend demons.

She meets Gage one of the shades, when he rescues her, and there is an instant connection. He may be attractive but his arrogance and attitude knows no bounds. Yet, she still can’t seem to stay away, even though he is pushing her away with everything he has got.

She knows what side she must choose, but Gages father has something up his sleeve that will force her hand to the dark side.

Who will she choose? You just need to read to find out as there is a lot more to this story I can’t tell you about or I fall into spoiler zones.

This is a fast paced, enemies to lovers, good and evil, angels and demons, paranormal romance that can’t be missed.

I was lucky enough to be gifted with the audiobook which was narrated wonderfully by Vanessa Moyen. So I highly recommend listening to this version of the story.

Top marks and can’t wait for book 2 - 5/5

Great start to the series

I really enjoyed this book. You are immediately thrown into the story, but the world building and character development is really well done as the story progresses. Tatum is a great character. And Gage's appeal is definitely there. A shout out to Dash whose character I quite enjoyed as well. Looking forward to listening to book two.

Mind blown

Mind blown. Seriously, that's the only word in my mind after having finished Shadow Angel. The world-building was off the charts and I loved getting to know the history behind both the Lumens and Shades and how Tatum has to make a choice between the two. I loved her and I was pretty much rooting for her from the get-go. Her inner monologue is hilarious and there were parts where I definitely related with her. Gage, the green-eyed, morally gray hero, was a surprise in that he definitely felt refreshingly different from any other heroes I've read about in the YA Urban Fantasy genre, (from his protecting Tatum to, in a way, even rooting for her, while at the same time being a Shade, he's a complex puzzle readers will enjoy figuring out). Of course, their chemistry is there from the start, but this is a slow burn that pays off towards the end. The cast of side characters was definitely great, and I loved getting to know all of them. I loved the banter between them, and how fiercely loyal and protective they are of their own (in this case, making Tatum part of their group). They definitely made me wish I could hang out with them, and I look forward to getting to know them more as the series progresses.

Now, I've listened to Vanessa Moyen as the narrator to some of Julie's books before, but this is the first time that it all clicked from the very start, and I loved every single aspect of her narration. She definitely pulled off Tatum's nearly eighteen-year-old voice, as well as Gage's slight British accent, and I definitely enjoyed all the different voices she used to bring Drea, Jacob, Dash, and the rest of the gang to life. Her performance of all the different nuances, from vulnerability to being mad, as well as worried, and everything in between was really great, and her pace was perfect for all the action going on in this story. :)

Overall, I'm certainly glad I got to experience this story as an audiobook, since it's truly the best of both worlds, immersing the reader into this new world. I haven't read anything by Leia Stone, whereas I've read everything by Julie Hall, but I know this is perfect for both their fans, as well as those of the YA Urban Fantasy genre, or even those who wanted more Academy series after Julie's Fallen Legacies. I'd especially recommend it for people who love reading about angels and demons, the fight between good and evil, fast-paced action, newfound friends that feel like family, and a slow-burn sweet romance. After that kinda cliffhanger ending, I definitely can't wait to dive into the next! ~ 5 stars

Content: PG-13 (mild spoilers below)
Sex: none, only one super explosive kiss with tongues mentioned. However, there's also talk of "shagging" as part of a fake relationship.
Language: yes. I didn't count them, but there's a mix of d*mns, cr*p, and sh*t.
Violence: yes, as part of the fight with demons, and this being a world where they roam freely on earth (influencing people while feeding from them).

When angels and otherworldly is turned on it’s head.

I have always loved a love story. An instant attraction, love to hate. Whatever!! And this meets my every requirement. A good v evil. That you are your own person and make your own decisions.
I love Tate, and that she sees grey but loves the light and is true to her heart. That she stands up for others. A real female character that knows her mind. And she eats.
Gage, he had my heart from the beginning and something always had me turning to him. I was desperate to know more about him and what he really wants behind his guarded exterior.

Angels and demons, strange parents and a slow burn love story. The book that gives you a book hangover and your gutted it ends. (Off I go to find our about book two).

The writing is beautiful and descriptive while building a world that you believe in so much you know that you just need to keep reading to know more. Characters you care about and want to win.

But what a cliffhanger!!!
