Summary
A Wall Street Journal bestselling series.
An explosive conspiracy sets the ocean roiling for a deep-diving investigator in a riveting thriller by the author of the Amazon Charts bestseller The Girl Beneath the Sea.
A distress call draws rescuers Sloan McPherson and the Underwater Investigation Unit to a cruise ship off the coast of Fort Lauderdale that’s sinking from a mysterious explosion. When it appears to be the work of an ecoterrorist and other ships are threatened, it becomes a race against time. More clues are discovered, and evidence is in danger of being washed away by a coming tropical storm. Sloan grows concerned that key details are being ignored, and a strange lack of urgency by authorities sets off alarms.
As the troubling questions compound, Sloan is determined to chase down every lead she has. Her persistence is getting her closer to the truth: that there’s something far more troubling at play than the official explanation. It’s also putting Sloan on a collision course with an enemy more powerful than she realizes, in a case so complex and deadly it may be impossible to prove. Now cracking the case is a matter of staying one step ahead of someone with every resource imaginable to bury Sloan and everything she knows.
Critic reviews
“Mayne provides a complex scenario that will leave listeners guessing what will happen next. The narration is well performed by Susannah Jones.”—Library Journal
“The fast-paced plot is filled to the brim with fascinating characters, and the locale is exceptional—both above and below the waterline. One doesn’t have to be a nautical adventure fan to enjoy this nail-biter.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“Strong pacing, lean prose, and maritime knowledge converge in this crackerjack thriller.”—Kirkus Reviews

Read Instead of Listen
An interesting and fast paced story kneecapped by the narrator’s terrible performance. She may as well have been reading a math textbook.

Narration
I usually enjoy listing to anything by Andrew Mayne . The narration on Sea Storm left a lot to be desired. Her intonation took away from the story. Trying to be a tough female cop turned into version of Mae West with a gun. I have listened to other female narrators nail this type of character with humor and an understanding of what its like to be a female cop in a dangerous situation

Read, don’t listen.
The breathy narration passages sound like something straight from a romantic B movie audition. When the narrator uses regular voices and not a husky whisper, the spoken text sounds good. The story line is strong, the characters believable, the action scenes, especially underwater, bring you to the edge of your seat. Too bad the narrator spoils the scenes.

too little too long.
This book does not compare to the first two of the series. The characters are weak and whiny. The story is limited in supporting biline stories and their character brief content development. This series needs a fourth book to give justice to the time and money I just wasted.

I just can't get into the narrator.
The story line is good but the narrator sounds like she is just reading. Maybe lack of pre reading?

Another hit
Mayne has done it again. I couldn't put this read down. It's well written and keeps the reader engaged. The characters are well developed and relatable. Can't wait for the next one!

Action with a twist
The main character Sloan is a quick thinker and Susannah Jones did a wonderful reading. This is like a noir mystery with its lighting pace and turns. I loved it !

Science missing
This book is missing the refreshing science basis of Mayne’s other books. It is a decent adventure story, though.

Still good
But seemed more like a regular crime story. Need more diving, more family. Less cop.
