Nazi. Fugitive. Murderer. Sadist. Who is the real Hans Schreiber? Two journalists conduct a desperate quest to reveal the real Schreiber in this time-jumping, harrowing thriller about bringing unimaginable secrets to light...and a monster to justice. Crime reporter Mark Edwards and his colleague Danielle Green wade deep in red herrings and a twisting and turning plot as they seek to discover the terrible secret of a Nazi sadist who has continued his murdering ways in modern London. The story switches from a wartime transit camp in Czechoslovakia to contemporary Germany; from a London suburb to the Old Bailey, the world's most famous criminal court, where two men strive to claim that the other is the real Hans Schreiber.

Schreiber's Secret is a gripping tale of unimaginable horror and hatred revolving around a question of identity. Who is the real Hans Schreiber?

Gripping thriller

I loved it. Thrilling turn of events, slick use of language and read by a talented actor.

Started well...

Just a little to coincidental, started well though but the middle section didn't contribute to the plot too much.

Incredible twists in superb mystery/thriller

Where does Schreiber's Secret rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was my first experience of an audio book. It was utterly absorbing. It brought home the power of the author's words.

What did you like best about this story?

There was so much moral power within the guise of this mystery/thriller. The terrible psychological effects of Nazi bestiality against the Jews were even more moving than the physical. The story was deep, and all the twist and turns were totally plausible.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The court scene at the Old Bailey was totally authoritative.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The scene of Hans Schreiber's barbarity in the Small Fortress had me in tears. One part in particular left me unable to move.

Any additional comments?

Nigel Patterson's rendition of Roger Radford's superbly written thriller was so good that I felt compelled to listen, often without a break. It's no wonder the ebook on Amazon.com has hundreds of 5-star reviews.

Not a mystery, but a passable story

At times this story really was predictable, and that was its let down!
dealing with Holocaust history is never an easy subject and trying to be sensitive in how you deal with it is perhaps for the author the really tricky part.

Full marks on that score this book achieves a depth of understanding which I as a non Jewish person found very educational.... although when reading a book of this type education is not my first reason for reading!

The narrator Nigel Patterson clearly understands the jewish life, culture and phraseology and delivered a convincing performance of the German personalities too, although at times I did feel that the Schreiber character was a little cliche'd, leaving me with a distinct feeling of"Allo Allo".

I did enjoy the whole book and my criticisms are a bit picky I know, as it was very well paced, well written and on the money in terns of the complexity that a story of this type needs. The spoken German to my unpracticed ear sounded perfect it was just some of the accents that left me smiling ruefully at times but other than that good enough, and probably an author and narrator I would seek out for further offerings.....

Very Enjoyable

I enjoyed this novel even though I found it difficult to listen to the descriptions about the horror that were inflicted upon others by the Nazis. Even though this is fiction I found it fascinating to think that Nazis attempted to hide in order to escape prosecution. Narrated superbly, written well and with respect to a difficult subject

Fascinating

I have already read the book so was fascinated to hear the audio version.
The whole thing came so alive it seemed like a new book to me. The narration of Nigel Patterson brought gravitas and credibility on all levels to the story. He got the Jewish accent perfectly balanced and the timing of a Jewish conversation ( that is an important feature). The book had a built in suspense which Nigel gave further depth to. This audio book comes from a well written, strong story and a timeless subject, well executed and is made into the equivalent of a Radio 4 Play - which to me is the best.

Chilling and absorbing

Any additional comments?

I lost relatives in the Holocaust,so this superb story resonated with me.The author's research was impeccable.Indeed, there were no tired tropes in this book, just absorbing characters leading me this way and that until my head was spinning with trying to second-guess Schreiber's terrible secret. I also cried in a few places, thanks in no small part to the excellent narration. I am in my hundredth year, so I've read a few books in my time. This was easily one of the best plotted.
