Summary

'Absolutely gripping from the word go' Alexis Conran, Times Radio

'A convincing insight into the terror and adrenaline rush of war' Mail on Sunday

Damien Lewis's new bestseller tells the action-packed, riveting story of the band of mavericks and visionaries who made the SAS. Using hitherto untold stories and new archival sources, Damien Lewis follows one close-knit band of warriors from the SAS foundation through to the Italian landings - chronicling the extraordinary part they played as the tide of the Second World War truly turned in the Allies' favour.

This is a narrative of wall-to-wall do-or-die action and daring, chronicling the exploits of some of the most highly-decorated soldiers of the twentieth-century.

'Damien Lewis, bestselling author, describes the extraordinary bravery of Paddy Mayne and, it seems strange to say, the humanity of Mayne ... Brilliant' Nihal Arthanayake, BBC Radio 5 Live

'The depth of research is astounding' Belfast Telegraph

Amazing Story

An amazing true story of bravery and bravado so much better than the TV adaptation! However I agree with the previous comment that Damien should leave the narration to an actor. He is so deadpan which does not match the content of unbelievable courage.

Who dare’s Wins

Great stories of these legends, just a shame someone else didn’t narrate it tho as his tone just continues the same all the way through the book as if theirs no highs or lows.

Damien, please don't read your books!

Great story but the narration was a difficult listen. Voice actors are worth it to make an audiobook flow. Damien, please don't read your own books, big fan of your other audiobook titles

Unbelievable if it wasn't true.

A great account. Plenty of military and historical facts but also key insights into the people and personalities that drove the inception and formation of the SAS as it became to be. Authentically narrated and let's the story deliver the drama, not the narrator, for there is plenty enough drama in the story itself!

Wonderful stories told by an amazingly talented author.

Another wonderful read from this fantastic author, made better by him reading it himself! Loved it!
